    Talking 8k3a+ & XP 1700+

I am new to the forums along with overclocking. So far i have unlocked my 1700+ Palomino and have attained a really stable 200 MHz FSB (200 x 7). The highest I have overclocked the CPU to is 1.61 GHz (170 x 9.5) I am trying to reach 2 GHz if that is possible. Any advice???

my advice is you sell that palomino for whatever anyone offers you ..... i've had a couple of palomino's Xp1700+ w/c sadly will not make it that far ..... you will be extremely lucky to even reach 1.8 to 1.9ghz ............ get an XP1700+ T-bred B JIUHB stepping .... they're cheap and awesome overclockers ..... currently the best overclockers ....... some will do 2ghz on defualt voltage ..... personally mine did 2ghz on just 1.65volts

Some lucky bastards got their Palomino XP1600+ to 2GHz with very good aircoolig and high voltage, but if you got an old Palomino 1.61GHz is maybe max. A newer one normally does between 1.8GHz and 1.9GHz.

Sounds like the lock has shorted out.

How did you unlock your CPU?...if you used that screwed up greese, you could of smeered some of it and it is causing the lock to short out.

If you used a defogger kit or conductive pen, then what you might want to try to do is, redo the unlock and AFTER it dries, put a small peice of electrical tape over the L1 bridge so it doesnt short out on the HS.

BTW - You can not put a strip of electrical tape over the greese.

I used the grease...the L1 bridges are connected still with no signs of smudge. What is the best conductive grease anyway?

that's your problem i think .... conductive paint is better than the grease .... as it is meant for the job but it's expensive
