    yeah you are right there... The pricing is not really in favour of AMD anymore... Besides AMD is having supply issues (not the type that you would notice just ones that keep the prices artifically high).

    You know that and I know that. But does the average PC buyer know that?
    I'm telling ya I know a lot of people that still think in the 486 days. It's surprises me often.

Most people probably have heard of Intel and some have heard of AMD, but that's where it stops.

    I really agree with the TS that marketing these new lower-mhz cpu's is gonna be hard to do.
    Not to mention the people that call their ENTIRE COMPUTER a CPU... talk about pushing my buttons...I hate when people do that...

    But yeah Intel will have to playa good marketing game to get this across.... I originally thought that was the whole reason they switched to their numbering system...so that once these more effiecient cpu's hit the market they could make them like 10XX which would be better than 9XX... They may also try to get Mhz out of people's minds entirely and try promoting the fact that it is a faster more efficient CPU than what is currently being offered and that you just HAVE to have it RIGHT NOW... But Intel, although taking some beatings in the performance market the last few years, it old and wise and I believe will get the job done well

    IMHO Waste is a computer going to a landfill having done actual computations less than 90% of it's life. 90% of the computers powered on right now are idle or powered off; what a waste! [/B]

    Is it a coincidence that your wifes pc is called Uranus?

    Actually, I remember my "computer" class in early gradeschool. They taught us that the "box" that the computers parts are in is called the CPU. Remember though, this was 1987 and alot of people learned from those old textbooks.

    Plus, if you're not talking about individual parts inside the machine then technically the "box" IS the Central Processing Unit (Because all the processing takes place in it). It makes alot of sense when you realize that Apple IIs didn't have seperate parts or cards. It was simply a huge board with even the actual CPU soldered onto the board.

    BTW, my first computer was a Laser 128EX. That should tell ya something...

    ha, I know people who do that. I just stop talking to them about technology ever again.

    Anyways, I find the name Core, or Duo kinda stupid as well. From what I know, and found out, that most people don't even know what's going on in the CPU market. Only Pentium4, or whatever. Then they have the salesman come over and say, this brand of CPU PWNZ TEH BIG oneoneone11, or something like that, and they'll take it.

    Now they'll be more confused with the new name Core Duo, or solo or whatever. Heck lots of people doesn't even know what dual-core is.

    They will soon if Intel does anything with marketing (which they usually do) that said AMD marketing is starting to shape up a bit... But it's nowhere near the level of Intel.

    I hear this at least once or twice a week and it is one of my biggest pet peeves.... The worst was one user who said she had two computers but only one CPU... I get there and her "second computer" is an extra monitor sitting in the corner *groan*.

    Back on topic, I really don't care what they call it, users are users and they will never understand computers or even know or care if their computers are faster or slower. Case in point: one guy at work has an old celeron laptop (I think it's 1 GHz) and was issued a new dothan 2.13GHz with 1GB 533 ram and the new laptop sits in the corner because his old one has a smoother touchpad

    After I showed my system to my boss that cost half the money and was twice as fast as the 40 machines they just bought, "users" don't get to make technology decisions any more

    That's far too common... Never agree to do tutoring for seniors... I have done a lot (living in a retirement community ) and all but one are extrememly slow... Mind you... I've met some people on the forums that beat them all for stupidity... but that's something else....

    Dear Lord! I used to think that my mother was bad, but at least she understands that a computer is a computer and a monitor is a monitor and doesnt consitute a 2nd computer! Even got her to understand that a hard disk is the C drive, still having to overcome her mental block against it also beign a D drive tho!

    intel core = good

    intel retarded CPU numbering = bad

    T2300? T2600? E4200? E6700? T7400?

    Intel has the worst CPU labeling system ever.

    AMD is much better, i actually here people say they have an AMD X2 3800mhz, or a AMD 64 4ghz processor, IE, they think 4000= 4ghz.

    The 5 characters indentifies the power class and performance-related features of the processor. The letter indicates the power class.

    U-> Power range 14W and below
    L-> Power range 15W to 24W
    T-> Power range 25W to 49W
    E-> Power range 50W to 95W(i think)

    And then, within a power class, a higher number indicates more performance features.

    At least you can read the power classes from Intels numbering. To say that AMD is much better in numbering than Intel, is like saying that Lada is built better than a Ferarri. AMDs numbering sucks. Quite simple.

    If not, what makes AMDs numbering better?

    AMD has made it seem like AMD 4000 = 4Ghz etc

    While the people who follow computers understand the differences, does the average person know what ULTE stand for?

    Will they think that a Merom T7400 is 3 times faster than a T2300 Yonah?

    Just my opinion... but not logical for average people who dont know anything about computers.

    AMD doesnt have a 4800+ and then a 14200+ etc. It is all progressive, which is easier for normal person to understand.
