    Ageia Physx, first impressions.

    Test system Conroe @ 2.66Ghz 333FSB 4MB dual core
PCMark 2005 w/ Physx test 240FPS with Ageia installed
    Big Bang 9FPS

    Test system Conroe @ 2.13Ghz 266FSB
    PCMark 2005 w/ Physx 225FPS
    Big Bang 4FPS

    Test system Conrow @ 2.66Ghz 333FSB
    No Physx installed 270FPS
    Big bang 14FPS

Current #1 PCMark2005 is at 217FPS with quad cores
    Current #2 PcMark2005 is a 4.9Ghz Presler with 240FPS

I will test on Presler to see scaling on platform. Waiting for feedback from Ageia as well.

Not impressed so far, an AMD FX with single threading would be able to get a boost from this card now. Next generation Intel core technology takes a performance hit. Sub 5Ghz Preslers would also see a small increase in performance in a handful of games.

Try the Ghost Recon demo. It supports the Physx card.

Dang! I was expecting more. So no improvement in 3dmark tests either?

Wow, I gotta say, I'm suprised by the results. I guess in a real world situation though, aka a game, you could just hope that the improved visuals from the physics make up for the performance hit. Ideally though, the only slowdown from the physics being enabled would be the videocard drawning a bunch of stuff flying around that might not have been there without the card.

There are a lot more to physics in games than just things flying around, like collision, and densities. It's all APi and engine support that will make/break the ageia or any ppu. God I hope they end up mainstream!

The api is not supported yet in 3Dmark from what I am told. Ive had the card in and seen no improvements.

I had hoped to have answers today, not that I wanted to post negative information and held off for a few days as I tested more. I think with a lesser system to test on there will be improvment on those tests.

FX57 could really take advantage of this. But high clocked intel/amd dualcore, or Conroe will just be held back by the slower clocked physx card, as Charles has shown.

Maybe someone will figure out how to overclock these to make them worth it. Of course, the prices would have to come down also.

But then, would that really make much sense? I mean this costs $150+, cheap CPU costs 150-200$, thats $350 total. You would be able to buy a damn good cpu for $350.

I doubt it would do anything, but what version of the drivers did you use? I know with the new GRAW demo it came with 2.33 yet 2.40 is out now on the net. Did you try with those latest drivers to see what you come up with? Just a thought and suggestion.

Huh? On the 3D06 loading splash screen it shows the PhysX card logo.

I think Ageia developed the physics system for 3D06, but that doesn't mean that it's cards will work with it. we may have to wait a little while for card support. Sometimes it takes a while for new technology to catch on.

What bothers me the most is online games.. for example in Quake they had to lower the plasma gun's rate of fire so that there isn't so many plasma balls flying around, overloading ppl's connections.. Now, when a game that really uses this PhysX card will come out you might be able to shoot into a wall with your tank and the whole building will realistically colapse.. And that's a lot more info for the server to pass around to all the clients than a few plasma shots.. Untli we all have fiber @ home, this looks like LAN only thing Sad, would be awesome, imagine BF2 with destructable environments..
