    Simple Q&A... A-MA790FXT-UD5P or Asus M4A79T Deluxe

    Going for this setup...

    - Samsung T240HD 24" Widescreen LCD Freeview Monitor (LS24TDDSUV/EN)
    - Motherboard
    - Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 4870 1024MB GDDR5 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express) - Retail (21133-04-20)
    - AMD Phenom II X3 Tri Core 720 Black Edition 2.8GHz (Socket AM3) - Retail
    - Corsair HX 620W ATX Modular SLI Compliant Power Supply
    - Corsair 4GB DDR3 DHX 1600C9DHX Twin3X (2x2GB) (TW3X4G1600C9DHX)

I personally feel the gigabyte will be the better of the 2 if they can get the bios straightened out.

Having personally used both of them and being open minded and unbiased and not a fan boy.

well after there last nice running board that has served me well over a yr now (and running a 945 es nicely) it's kinda hard to pass up.

I think they may have done a few thing differently from asus or giga that might help oc am3 cpu's, hard to tell tho as we have no 1st hand experience as of yet other then WWM's review of the board.

for a while now i have seen ASUS boards come out on top again and again (in the top 5 Phenom I OC lists)

i also have its little sister here the M4A79 Deluxe, and so far i am very impressed, solid as a rock.

and for me the ASUS bios support is spot on, they find a fault they fix it straight away, and release it.

this board ahs had 3 official so far maybe 4, i think so far, that syas it all.

that on top of the fact that the first revision bios seems mature enough of the bat.

i could go on about what i think is a very good PWM section and so on, but you get my point

the board is solid, and i supect its big brother will be too, i may just pick it up myself soon (after mates wedding) im poor at the moment

But that's only if they can sort the BIOS issues out, and from the past, they were never good at that!

The Asus costs a small amount more, but i don't mind as long as i'm getting a good board!

the msi should be here tomorrow so ill can start testing that

also my mem is topping out @ 1880 on both boards, so ill need better mem maybe for amd setup i want to try some elpida ram but funds are low. im on a mission to crack 1000mhz on amd

C0ol, you need to understand that the senior bios engineer shifted to intel due to the shift in users.

Now that Amd is back on track and more users are shifting towards amd you will see more quality work being put into bios's.

Hardcore enthusiasts whether some folks like to admit it or not are the driving force behind getting these fixes implemented.

The lack of hardcore enthusisasts is representative of what alot of people saw with phenom I boards and bios's

I am doing my best to put pressure on gigabyte to put out a top notch bios, the wheels are turning as we speak.

Well, you seem like you know what you're on with, and i've been out of the OC'ing / Hardware loop for TOO long.

So, i'm going to order the GB Mobo, and hope for the best...

While i'm here though, could you recomend any decent memory for my setup? Preferably something i can get from OcUK & Less than £100 for 4gb.

I really can't reccomend any brand, sorry, I have gotten duds in just about every brand out there, luck of the draw.

I would reccomend getting a 3x2gig kit though. You can test sticks individually and this sort of idiot proofs the chances of getting a bad stick etc pick the 2 best sticks.

I would read alot of user reviews (newegg) and buy something that has good compatibility etc very little issues for the majority and just works.

I ended up with a gskill kit that does 100 over rated specs, not the greatest timings just a stable set of ram.

I think you are making a wise decision. I run F3b bios and only hang up is when X-fire, I can't get bios to hold HT ref above 215. Since I have a BE on it that doesn't matter as much, but I would like to run my Ram's rated speed of 1800mhz. Chew* is a good sourse, (even tho he won't let me play in his "win a phenom II" challenge) It is a solid board.

I would have to say the 790fx MSI board. Been playing with it a few days now and loving it but then again, I havent tried the Giga or the Asus so.........
Particle's First Rule of Online Technical Discussion:
As a thread about any computer related subject has its length approach infinity, the likelihood and inevitability of a poorly constructed AMD vs. Intel fight also exponentially increases.

    Rule 1A:
Likewise, the frequency of a car pseudoanalogy to explain a technical concept increases with thread length. This will make many people chuckle, as computer people are rarely knowledgeable about vehicular mechanics.

    Rule 2:
When confronted with a post that is contrary to what a poster likes, believes, or most often wants to be correct, the poster will pick out only minor details that are largely irrelevant in an attempt to shut out the conflicting idea. The core of the post will be left alone since it isn't easy to contradict what the person is actually saying.

    Rule 2A:
When a poster cannot properly refute a post they do not like (as described above), the poster will most likely invent fictitious counter-points and/or begin to attack the other's credibility in feeble ways that are dramatic but irrelevant. Do not underestimate this tactic, as in the online world this will sway many observers. Do not forget: Correctness is decided only by what is said last, the most loudly, or with greatest repetition.

Remember: When debating online, everyone else is ALWAYS wrong if they do not agree with you!

If you are buying now, I'd recommend ASUS. If you can wait another month or so, Gigabyte is also ok (if they fix their bios within a month)
