Bronze Powerbookg3 loosing info.??? Help

I bought a cheap Bronze PBg3 with no battery to play with have the yo/yo plug though. The problem is when I shut it down the only thing it remembers is the name of the user not the setting any thing that I changed or put in or on it.
The question is, Is this the (BIOS) I know it is not called that on mac but anywho, battery or wtf is going on. I dont get it.

Hey thanks for all the help there guys! I got a tip to reset the vprm or what ever it is called and it is working now.
