have i discovered something for 754 users?

    okay this is strange ( http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...ad.php?t=84445 )

in this thread you will find that i cannot get my ram with both modules in at the same time to a very high clock ... but for some reason when i drop the multi to 8.5* 276 i can get my ram at 260 mhz with NO PROBLEM but with "1:1" i cannot even attempt to touch it .. nothing at all ... does the drop in the multiplier have any thing to do with this? i dunno why cuz before with both ram modules in it would go all sorts of wonkers and what not.

what would change with me dropping the multi??? or i should say why would it change?

edit, mind you this was just cuz i was soooooo bored ... now onto test 7.5*320 that should get my ram to 300 and a decent cpu speed of 2400 right? ... who says half multi's can't be useful

Well running the half multi's means you are running a ram divider, so it could just mean your chip doesnt like running 1:1. This isnt that uncommon, however, it tends to happen more with dual-cores than single-cores, but maybe the 754's just dont have that great of memory controllers comparatively.

I'm pretty sure you're running a bad divider. Try running some Pi runs with equal mhz values to see if your ram is really running @ that speed.

no it's running a devidor just like it should, ask anybody 8.5 multi will default ram to /9 trust me ... trust them btw i highly doubt cpu-z would misreport that and that issue was fixed a LONG time ago

well can't get it stable .... but it's an improvement ... so it's ... something

eh, sorry to hear bro ... unless you wanna solder all the chips ontop of eachother to 1 stick ... lol that might not even work

btw try you level settings i increased my skew to 255 and data strength to 1 on my tccd and got me to 41.1 percent pass on memtest ....

Using 2 sticks of ram is in most cases a no go on s754 boards. I remember S754 having trouble with more than 1 double sided ram module as well...
Playing around with mal and preamble made me boot up at 381mhz htt, whereas I was maxed out at 311 before that.
I am now running 350x9 stable at 1.65v (1.61v according to cpu-z), so playing around with dividers and mal made it for me.

hmm but won't that lower the performance of the ram too?

that was the fault of memory controller on older CPUs. C0 Clawhammers were the ones who had trouble running more than 1 stick of RAM.

there are no such problems today with Venice based A64s & Semprons.

but even better CG rev Clawhammers managed to run 2×512MB TCCD over 270MHz.

if it makes you feel better, i had the ultimate POS Newcastle 3000+ before this Sempy.

i couldn't OC that NC past 2.35GHz, and running RAM over 230MHz required 2T. also, when OCing with 2 sticks, i even had trouble reaching 2.25GHz.

i guess it has something to do with 512 modules....

i just slapped 2x256 bh5 old school and i went straight to superpi 32m

the other 2x256 kit that i have...ch5 can do 250 easy

maybe a limitation of the mobo

steelballzz, you mobo are you running?

i have the same CPU like you (BTW what's your stepping?), and i have no problems running 2×512MB upto 250MHz.

did you give it a shot without the divider?
