Talking NiBiTor 2.7 screenshots of 7900GT/GTX bios clocks

In light of this revelation at http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...ad.php?t=92853 that some manufacturers have different geometric delta clocks for their cards, i thought i'd download latest NiBiTor 2.7 and the current 7900GT/GTX bioses and see what clocks they have

    7900GTX

    eVGA 7900GTX Superclocked rev1

    eVGA 7900GTX Superclocked rev2

    Gigabyte 7900GTX

    MSI 7900GTX

    PNY 7900GTX

    PNY 7900GTX OC

    XFX 7900GTX

    XFX 7900GTX E

    XFX 7900GTX XE

    ======================
    7900GT

    POV 7900GT

    Galaxy 7900GT

    XFX 7900GT

    XFX 7900GT EE

    XFX 7900GT XE

    XFX 7900GT XXX

    eVGA 7900GT

    eVGA 7900GT SC rev1

    eVGA 7900GT SC rev2

    Leadtek 7900GT

seems nearly everyone adhered to 50mhz and 20mhz delta for 7900GTX and 7900GT respectively except XFX

acording to what ppl saying XFX overclok the cards but lower the geometric delta or pt to 0 like this :

    XFX 7900GTX -------------690Mhz core----------delta = 15 ------705Mhz

    other 7900GTX -------------650Mhz core --------delta = 50 -------700Mhz

    other 7900GT card --- 530MHz core --------- delta = 20 -----550Mhz

    XFX 7900Gt card ---------550 mhz core --------- delta = 0 ----- 550Mhz

    My XFX 7900 EXtreme (520/1500) ------delta = 0 ( i can get with coolbites 565/570---1800)

Ok I understand the delta clocks, and thats pretty lame of XFX to do. But I don't understand the point of nvidia having delta clocks, when they already have a 2d and 3d mode. So does the core clock on a standard 7800gtx for example then vary from 650mhz core to 700mhz core while running 3d appz? wouldn't it then be better (especially for benching) to have a 0 delta clock and run the card at the highest stable clock speed?

No it depends on how high your other domaints can go ,It's better to have all of them @550 then 550 made from 500+50 delta where only for geomtry clock will be 550 and Rop and Shader 513But in most cases to add delta is better ,cos shader and rop jump in 27mhz and can't be handled ,but geomtric can go higher.Every card must be test ,how much delta will be optimal.

Why the harping on XFX? XFX is good. They probably lowered the delta's just to cover their ass with the pre overclock. I bet it doesn't mean anything and I'll test it out tommorow. It might not even artifact if you change it back to 50....but they don't ship it as so since it MIGHT and they'd look bad.

    XFX's overclock great.

Well it can be seen as a move to show their cards as the fastest in the market *on paper*, something is true but only 10mhz in the best case (XFX 7900GTX XXX Ed 690+15 = 705, another is 650+50 = 700; XFX 7900GT XXX Ed 560, other 530+20 = 550).

But on the other side, as zawelke says, I prefer to have a delta of 0 so you're sure the card runs fullspec all the times

There seems to be some confusion as to what the delta clock does. The delta clock specifies the number of MHz that the geometry portion of the core runs faster than the shaders and ROPS. Thus XFX arnt being sneaky at all.

XFX 7900GTX XE runs 690 with 15MHz delta core 875 mem. This means:

    Shader/ROP Clock 690MHz
    Geometry Clock 705MHz
    Mem Clock 875MHz

Gigabyte 7900GTX run 650 with 50MHz delta clock 800 mem. This gives:

    Shader/ROP Clock 650MHz
    Geometry Clock 700MHz
    Mem Clock 800MHz

Hence the XFX cards should be faster, unless the geometry clock is the limiting factor then all cards will perform the same as there is only a 5MHz difference between the two.

For the last time, to clear up all the confusion on "delta clock" once and for all:
GF7 have 4 different clocks for 4 different parts of the chip.
delta clock is just how much faster the geometry clock is.

    Side note...

Anyone check to see if changing the voltage in Nibitor works on the 7900 GTX?

I'd try it, but my pc is down..

Thanks EVA2000, I now understand what that other guy at guru3d was trying to say.

I'd have to say as well that I fall into the camp of thinking that I'd rather have a card with a low delta like XFX because you would not want to limit your shader and rops by the geometry clock max limit being hit first ..better to have a more balanced increase on all.

    Regards

    Andy
