A8N32 Sli Deluxe & Vcore issues.

Just got this board and having a big issue with vcore and my X2 4800+. On bios 1103, it shipped with those.

Up to 1.45v works fine, anything after will not work. If I use the CPU over volt and set the vcore @ 1.3v I will get 1.5v however once I reboot the system will not post. Just black screens. wtf?

Any info about this??? I cannot find anything at all. All I want is 1.5v...

You did the right thing in enabling the cpu overvolt option as this adds 0.2v to the vcore. The 'standard' vcore is limited depending on your cpu (single cores seem to get higher vcore than dualies). The max you will get is 1.62 afaik.

Why you are getting black screens (no post??) I cannot explain. Have you tried turning the pc off when you get black screens rather than reset when you have 1.5 set in the bios? This will tell you if its an overclocking problem when it reboots, just leave it 15 seconds or so when powered off then restart. It will either boot fine with 1.5 or inform you that 'overclocking failed...press f1 to setup' etc.

I've gone right off this mobo, because I've now had the second inexplicable CPU failure with it. With the rig on the bench (no case) my x2 3800 was running SuperPi at 2600 / 1.508v on stock HSF, temps about 49C - 51C, nothing dramatic and then BSOD and RIP. Just like that. I was using the overvolt, more for stability than anything else (it would do 1.5v without it).

It seems mad, but I'm going to rebuild on my spare DFI Expert because I haven't had a chip death on one (yet).

I still like this board but it's had problems with reboot since the beginging. I've tried all the bios and none cure the problem. Problems goes away when at stock settings but it doesn't seem to be exclusive to the Vcore voltage or ovrvoltage. Once you raise the fsb the problem will kick in also. Seems to happen in relation to stability. Anything short of 100% rock hard stability can cause the problem.

i just started having boot issues with mine too, it all started when i put a new opty 146 in. prime stable for 12 hours at the settings im at, but sometimes it wont post on reboot. shut it off and turn it back on and it posts, very odd. im running a couple hundred mhz faster with this new chip, so maybe theres an issue with the clock speed being over a certain mhz? i never had a problem with my 144 running at 2.7, but now this 146 at 2.9 is showing boot issues. i think its related to vcore. i wonder if the board is booting with the voltage settings set in the bios, or maybe it is undervolting during post?

    Update:

Aha! Here we go, I think I may have sorted my problems. I flashed the bios, but it was still giving me the problems. However I did as ic3man suggested:

just leave it 15 seconds or so when powered off then restart. It will either boot fine with 1.5 or inform you that 'overclocking failed...press f1 to setup' etc.
And it booted right up fine and I was able to do the bench below. I have not rebooted since tho LOL so I am not sure if this will stick. I'll keep this thread updated.

Not a spectacular run, mem was @ 263Mhz 3448, can do a lot better.

Big thanks to stevehat1 for the chip.

Ok well after a reboot it will still black screen instead of post. If I shut the power down wait then power on it will go straight into windows. This is in bios 1009. Only happens with vcore over 1.45v.

Odd. Gonna try bios 703 later today.

i went out of town for a few days, so i let my rig run sp2004 priority 10 blend for 52 hours. no errors. i am pretty sure this chip is stable, but i still get the warm boot issues, very weird and annoying!

when you restart the system, and it wont post. you have to cut the power and turn it back on for the system to post and boot again.

I would HIGHLY recommend ya'll run CnQ with the Asus boards. Works exceptionally well with the overvolt option enabled. I even wrote a guide on it because of the A8N32-SLI Deluxe :

    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...ad.php?t=95856

After doing this, never had issues with soft reboots again!

This isn't really an 'issue' exclusive to this board. Rather, it's ASUS's incompetence. With every single board from ASUS there are Vcore issues. Against my prior experiences, I still bought this board thanks to Wesley's wonderful review @AT as well as the *8-phase* power design for CPU. Well, ASUS will need 8,000,000-phase power design before they learn how to supply accurate, not-fluctuating Vcores.

Nice board overall, and I like its layout as well as somewhat lower CPU temps compared to DFIs', (yes, I measured with a thermo-gun). Regardless, this will be my last ASUS board. That's for sure.

Another thing I'd like to comment on: anybody close to AT's motherboard review team? I wish they realized the seriousness of their articles and learned not to be biased. Every single board they review break some kind of record, every time. Yah right.
I don't check my PMs very often.
