    A few Questions regarding Pentium/Celeron M's

    Hi folks.

Decided to go the P4P800-se + CT479 route for my second PC. Now this isnt going to be used as a benching PC. Just a quiet work PC which will also run F@H and later be used as a HTPC.

    A few questions:

I hear the 400 MHz 7x5 Dothans don't clock that well. Would they still be able to do say 160 MHz on the FSB?

How good are celeron Ms? How do they compare to Pentium Ms?

What about Banias based CPUs? Are they any good?

It needs to be fairly fast for folding, but nothing ub3r. Something equivalent to a 2.6 GHz A64 would be fine.

    Thanks for your help

    Check this thread.
    I've had a number of Celeron M and Pentium M, 350M, 360M, 370M, 730M, 740M (2).. and also a 710M (from a laptop).
    My 350 (B0) did FSB164, my 360 (C0) did 168.. my 370M (C0) didn't even managed 133.
Most Celeron M will clock to FSB160 or more as I've understood from various threads.. but as you see... there will be exceptions.. in both directions..
The Pentium M 7n5 with FSB100(400) do not clock as well as the 7n0 with FSB133(533).. They will do about 160-170 according to experience.. My 710 do 166-168 - regardless of MP.. But it's a Low Voltage version (supposed not to work with CT479.. but it does) with TDP of 10watt... and does it's max at VCore 1.375.. any more is pointless...(default is 1.245)
You are not guaranteed any specific clocks....either with Celeron M, Pentium M B0 or C0 versions.. Suffice to say is that most do very well..

    MY Celerom M 1.2 goes to 170 mHZ @ 2039 MHZ
will do maybe 173 FSB if I go upto 1.6V

I rather run it at lower voltage.

    1) It will not do *much* better.. It *might* do better.. or even worse as in my experience with a 370M.

    2) Yes.. there is at least one other thread about this..

Of course.. if you do the "kamerat-trick" and feeds a Celly M insane VCore it will do FSB200. but not for very long...

What motherboard are you using? I got that same CPU (Celeron M 310?) and I hit a wall at 160FSB, at 1.92Ghz it only needs around 1.45V though.
