il just wait that extra week to find out for real.

and i doubt wel have any problems of findingout how wel each grafix card does in Oblivion as i think alot of Review sites will put Oblivion in their benchmark suite once its released.

That score, seriously you think X850XT PE would be 1 single FPS behind next gen refresh 7900GT which is faster than next gen 7800GTX which you gotta admit is a lot faster than X850XT PE.

Btw... I can't really help you out much. (I'm having the same dilemma.) But I try to think like this, if a single X1900XTX isn't enough, one could always get a new mobo in the future for a second X1900XTX or CF.

Doesn't this realize in a substantial performance loss? On the other hand, I'm not too familiar with ATI chipsets... how big is difference for X190XT CF on RD580 vs RD480?

The PERFECT explanation for why X850 ~= 7900 is found!

The SM3.0 path probably is more CPU intensive than the SM2.0 path. Remember X850 doesn't support SM3.0

Dude, was that a joke? Rather being limited to SM2.0 would make the X850 even slower. SM3.0 was not to add much content in Oblivion (other than HDR, which is off here), rather just increase performance (I'm sure I read this in their forums, but they are down at the moment ). Now I don't know about CPU utilization, but I still believe those "scores" to be fake, fake, fake. They may be very, very close, but I seriously doubt the X850XTPE vs 7900GT.

No, the SM2.0 path definately features shorter shaders, as numberous OFFICIAL interviews have pointed out.

yeah no kidding. that 1fps difference really stands out.

Probably going to be like FEAR. At first leaked beta benchmarks show ATI 100% faster than nVidia. Then when game is released reviews show ATI 30% nVidia. Finally, when ATI fixes some bug, they are even again. Afterall with both ATI/nVidia very close in features, mem bandwidth, pixel fillrate, geometry rate, etc.. and limitations of CPU/RAM/chipset, it would truely be unusual for one to be MUCH faster than the other.

And if one is, there will be a driver within 1 month that'll even them back out. Generally that's how it works.

Shadow, I never said that the x1900 is bad/poor/worse. I posted a Benchmark that shows the x1900 winning single card but only by 2/3 fps at super resolution.

The main thing to note is that SLi is working a fair bit better in oblivion than Crossfire,

But we will have to see Official benchmarks first

That's from an NVIDIA slideshow. Remember how biased those are?

Therefore, one can surmise from this information that this is the WORST X1900 can do against 7900, aka it usually does much, much better.

If the opposite was true, NVIDIA would have posted benchmarks at a different configuration to get one where 7900 beats X1900 in all cases. Obviously this is not possible.

I think when u step back from the benchmarks and get into actually playing games, it really comes down 2 what games you want 2 play doesn't it?

I'm trying 2 make the decision right now 2 and I think I'm going with the nVidia cause I have a SLi MB anyway and we all know D3 is nV's baby.

Anyone have any thoughts on which manufacturer produces the 7900gtx that will OC the best under water?

I have the 7900GTX. I wanted the 1900XTX because you can raise the voltage VIA Software. the 7900GTX is real nice. I score a 11170 in 3dmark05 with my current computer stats. Its not too bad.

you can add that to your list of:
    * X1800/X1900 is new so there just MUST be more room for improvement in drivers
    * chronologically X1800 came later than GF7 so it MUST be better
    * X1800/X1900 gulp more power and put out more heat hence they MUST be better
    * ATI's bigger competitor with hundreds of engineers is utterly incompetent.. thats why initial FEAR beta benchmarks show ATI over 100% ahead of nVidia.
    * image quality issues.. that's impossible its ATI.
    * red is a faster color than green

game play huh ? Nice review at VR-Zone.com http://www.vr-zone.com/?i=3335

    Check out this page

    http://www.vr-zone.com/?i=3335&s=20

for gaming single X1900XTX and 7900GTX are about even it seems... oc'd now that's a different story out of the box X1900XT has adjustable voltages via software so for a person who can't volt mod (like me) X1900XTX seems like a better choice

    eva2000,
I agree 900% with you, but try explaining to some folks. After seeing 50 graphs with difference maybe 1-3fps, they find one with big difference and make HUGE issue out of it.

Pretty even i'd say. The fact that the 7900GTX runs cooler, quieter and requires less power appeals to me the most though.

Are there any decent after market air coolers worth getting for the x1900?

Both are great cards. Got me a XFX 7900 GTX today (another for SLI soon). Card is awesome. Quiet, runs cool (about 39C idle) in a warm room, no problems yet (i'e lockups stressed). Haven't overclocked yet.....be doing that later. I'll probably have some screenies soon.
