Each core can finish SuperPi32MB individually but not at the same time Opty165...why?

    Hi!
I am just beggining my OCing with dual core and hav my Opteron 165 at 2750MHZ with 1.50vcore. Why is it that when I run SuperPi 32mb dual one of my core fails but if I try each core separately they both pass the test? Does that mean there is a problem with dual superpis as Ive been reading?
I am using a dfi nf4 Ultra-d with the latest Tony bios 704-2 (something like that). All voltages are fine (multimeter tested).
    Regards

PS I am working on my new sig but just replace the CPU, video card, and mobo with the Opty 165, dfi nf4 ultra-d and xfx 7800gtx oc.

Make 2 folders.....SuperPi will try and write the output file to the same file and it fails.

2 folders, 2 exe's...name them 1 and 2 or something..then open each, go into task manager and set the affinity...then fire away

yes I did that and still. I mean I can do it with 1mb or smaller runs with both cores but when I try 32MB one core usually fails but individually they pass it all the time.... strange. Maybe memory related?
Do you think this test is a good one:
core 0 looping 3dmark 2001 in software rendering
    core 1 superpi 32mb
Will thar work and take anu superpi "issues" out of the equation? Perhaps a better one will be
    core 0 pcmark 2004
    core 1 pcmark 2005

Maybe heat problem? What's your CPU and PWMIC temp? when running dual superpi?

one of the pains of dual core figuring dual pi stability

    things to test and try

    1. increase vcore incrementally by 0.05v if you can and retest
    2. play with drive/drive data strength combinations
    3. play with TREF values
    4. play with vdimm

keep at it.. retesting every combination you may need to reboot and test all combos several dozen times

    but all worth it

Stress CPU test as I am trying to avoid my memory untill I get the OCZ booster. Is that mistake?

    UPDATE:
I just decided to run custom and set 400MB for each SP2004 since I have 1GB total ram and its been an hour and so far so good I am not to sure if I am using a bad program or I am not that far from been stable.

Right now I am running full %100 stress with SP2004 and my temps are:
    CPU 35ºC
    PWMIC 29ºC
    Chipset 32ºC

Trust me, my rig doesnt sound like a vacumm cleaner for nothing :-) Its really cold and as high end as air can be IMHO.

PS Nice overclocks on your sig :-)

Ever thought that it's unstable at that speed (in the classical sense--it's obviously unstable because it fails, but classical in that it fails because their are either too little potential or too much heat)? Core x can't remain stable because the other one is reducing the cooler's capabilities of removing heat from core x. Or heat isn't necessarily getting in the way and it just needs more volts to keep signal strength up.

Ivan...35C is possible with ~18C air on great aircooling. And judging by those PWMIC and chipset temps, 18C also seems logical.

EDIT: I'd like to clarify....adding heat when the voltage is only barely enough can cause a proc to be unstable....the added heat is coming from loading the other core simultaneously.

Ivan I can take a pic of my SP2004, task manager showing %100 plus, Smart Guardian to show my temps but honest, why would I even be lying about my temps? What will be the point? I will take the screenshot anyway....

Keep in mind that Utah is fairly cold these days, I have open window, and its a Scythe Ninja WITH a big delta fan @ 150+ CFM.
As I said the highest temp Ive seen its 38ºC and thats without been even close to the 200 hours of "cure" time for AS5. This has been my best ninja install ever...went really smooth and working great as you can see.
If needed...do you think it will be safe to add a little more vcore since I have low temps or should I just be happy with my OC?
    Regards

PS Gonna get my room thermometer later to add the very important room temp to my post. BTW my current idle is CPU 22C , PWMIC 22C, Chipset 32C.

I've had this same problem for months and still have it, I do run 2 lots of Prime 96 but for the hell of it I cannot make the super pi run both at the same time.

Here's what I did I made 2 folders both on the desktop then donloaded a super pi into each folder then unxipped to the same folder then renamed the first to super pi 1 then the second to super pi 2, I then open each and go into task manager set the affinity super pi one to core 0 and super pi 2 to core 1.

As soon as I then try to run both at the same time I get not convergent in SQR05 every time.

This maybe is due to the way I'm naming it? In Prime you go to name it differently I think that could be the problem can you do a step by step guide like the one for Prime as I'm sure I'm missing something simple.

Incidentally doesn't matter what PC I've ever tried it on and I have tried many times I always get the same result, overclocked std or even underclocked, what I'm trying to say is that it has to be the way I'm telling it to do run the programme it's definately not an unstable PC.

Any help would be appreciated this really does do my head in every time I try it.

I just finished superpi32MB at 2731MHZ so my theory is that since the temps are low, individually each core can finish it at 2751mhz...I will think that vcore is indeed what is preventing both cores to do it at 2751mhz.

His idle temps are 22C on the CPU and the PWMIC....ambient is in the teens at the highest. Also doesn't sound like the ninja is that great at keep load temps down, I thought it was better

I would suspect "Power supply" or power your rails to be more specific.
Both cores could draw more power and your PSU /mobo may not be able to provide a stable current.

if you can dual prime but not dual 32m then it's your memory timings and settings as originally stated - remember AMD64 and it's memory controller are all in one...

I checked with my multimeter and rails are doing great. I just added from 1.5 to 1.525 and see what happens. 1.55 is the highest Ishould go on air right?

Nah, as long as your temps are good, you can go as high as you want with volts (well, not really, but if you stay under 1.8v you'll be ok with that good a aircooling)

WOW I wouldnt give 1.8 to my old Newcastle much less to this one :-). I am thinking 1.55v as my limits since I dont want to kill it and 2730 (seems to be doing good with 2750mhz right now) is enough from a 1.8 CPU. Maybe 1.6 if it really gives me a lot of MHZ more.

    UPDATE:
    Room temp is 60ºF

this is what im thinking too. the 2 instances of superpi will still be using the same memory controller. obviously 2 instances are going to strain that controller more than the one would and this could explain the failing you see when running both at the same time.

It seems the extra vcore did the trick now I ran superpi 32mb perfectly at 2751MHZ. I notice that Smart Guardian says 1.48vcore.
Well, gonna go for more and see what happens but I am already a happy camper. :-)

    PS
Just passed SuperPi32MB with single cores at 2806mhz but not with both. I was able to do SuperPI 1MB with both at that speed.
