    SATA CD Drives

What ever happened to these? It seems they kind of faded in on a few drives, then just blanked out. Now, there's only one SATA model on Newegg which has a 2 star rating.

Is there a specific disadvantage to SATA optical drives?

Less cable clutter and that is it..
It costs more, has no better performance, Windows will not even detect it without installing the drivers.. it by large is useless.. a well designed IDE setup works just as well for alot cheaper...

SATA hdd's had similiar problems when they first came out too, though. It just seems like the manufacturers would have developed the technology more for PnP optical drives.
