    Some C1 action for ya

ok, long story short, went through 3 C1's and 1 B0 before finding this gem. the essential stats on the machine is:

    C1 2.4B, costa rica week 48, OEM (SL6DV)
    Epox Ep-4PEA+
    2 x 256MB Twinmos DDR400

cpu does 171 fsb on default vcore. that's about 3.07GHz. now, i bumped it up to 1.675 in the bios (about 1.64 actual) and it only does 177 prime95 stable, which is only 3186, which isn't much more. but i don't know if temps are getting me, or the chip hit its limit, cuz it's on the retail cooler, too lazy to hook the water up and see.

so, i dropped the vcore down to 1.57 actual, under load, and it is chugging along at 176, prime95 stable. crazy huh? almost point-one whole vcore less, and only less than 1 fsb. wonder if water will help at all. so anyways, here are some screenies:

Great OC on the retail cooler ! What's the ambient like ?

I've never seen a SL6DV in Australia, though it's available as both OEM and retail. Only SL6EF 2.4B C1.

ambient is, really i don't know lol. i'm in san diego, outside it is 56F, or 13c, but inside is much warmer, id say 65-70F maybe?

i didn't know sl6dv is available in both. i thought the codes only meant one or the other. interesting.

i'm debating whether to throw the water cooler in there. it's sitting here staring at me, but frankly, with such good results, i don't really see the point. maybe a few extra MHz? we'll see.

here is 3dmark, with 9700 non-pro, default, even 3dmark is default with no patches or anything.

Sweet Deez. I think watercooling P4's is kind of useless since you can't overvolt them much and the stock cooling is so good, (FWIW I went from 2.8x/ 2.9 stable on stock air w/ 2.4 B B0 to 3.0 on water). Doesn't mean I'm not doing it myself but feels more like I'm keeping the parts from rusting till the hammer comes out or whatever AMD burner makes it worth it to swap components again.

Another guy was asking about cherry picking P4's. How'd you do it?

NoEcho, about the cherry picking ... it's a crapshoot bro. i agonized about where i was going to purchase, what should i purchase, etc. went out and bought the first C1 i found, due to hype on various boards. dud, 2.7 was it. week thirtysomething. then got another one, retail, packdate in november. same thing. found out my bro-in-law's dell had a malay c1, week 43. dud.

one thing i noticed is usually the later C1's are doing quite good now. not always, but a trend. so i go into PC Club, they have them in a case. there were only 2 2.4B C1's, both of them from same batch, looked like they were numbered sequentially, and so my decision was easy, just grabbed one.
