Thread: Solid copper gpu units

    Solid copper gpu units

Should have both solid copper SLI/crossfire gpu units finished later today and ready for some nitro I have been busting my ass on design and getting them done. It hasnt been easy considering the space you have to work with on the middle card. These units will BARELY fit the expert board fully insulated.
Here is the first look at the raw material and some milling. The bores and final machinework gets done later today:

Raw material (saw cut). Guess what the little one is for

    Milling down to final size:

Compare of raw block with milled down material:

More pics later incuding other stages of production and testing of course.

    Looking good so far

Just curious how much does the copper cost you? Just to get a comparison to what I can get it here for in Canada.

    yep.

We were doing the bore today on the first pot and the measurments were slightly off and the tool tore through one of the sides of the block. This stuff happens More copper on the way... The material to make these is around 70.00 per unit. The difficutly with getting it right is that the copper block is being held by custom made fixture so it spins slightly off center...making the hole off center. This is by design and I was hoping to get it right first shot.

pic of the bore getting gut on the Mazak:

some measures plz...btw in my opinion that little one that probably is for the chipset won't do anything good, only adds more parts to insulate and to handle(cryogenic stuff charging)
however solid copper container for a vga will own,i can't imagine the possible scores you'll be able to do

Okay, thats actually pretty similar to what is costs over here. I thought it might have been cheaper in the states.

does it have an internal design? or is it just bored copper on the inside?

Either way, good luck man, I'm sure they are gonna own!

Read the thread bro Their custom mount for the square copper blocks was off and they drilled through the wall and he has to wait for more copper stock before he can finish it

I *think* he uses design.. Why would he make it off center if he did not?

Exactly what afi said and I decided to change some dimensions on the container to add more mass and have a slightly large bore. The overall design is the same, just will take a little more time now, but I should have something this week. Copper comes in mond or tue.

Thanks for the entertainment KingPin. I really enjoy the mill shots. I always wonder what kind of machines it takes to do this stuff.

Even if the northbridge block adds ~30 more mhz, thats enough to get a higher/faster world record. BTW, you should definetly make one for the ram. The japs have one, and it will probably help some of your utt/bh-5 for an extra 10mhz.

heck, if liquid cooling ram poorly can get 4mhz, some LN2 should work wonders
lookin pretty good thus far... i'm interested to see how you plan on milling them up and mounting them.
