ATI usually was still on top...

that to me, says alot about the power of a good ATI card in the right persons hands.

    seems that just ended...
not only this bothers me ,
But it's the fact that people don't run any 3dmark product as it should be....
when it says 4XAA most people are turning it off. This level of detail shivers me even more...
I don't give any value to most wr or scores.Just because of this..
LOL why not use wireframes hacks?

what a strange thing to say

this ant football and the card is not on steroids

we are talking about benching tools available to all ati and nvidia benchers

Not really, if a card has been developed to function under certain rules (architecture) then it makes no sense to disabled it, just to gain speed.

Here it makes sense what zabomb4163 says, cause the moment one starts to bend the rules, everybody has to follow him/her to keep up.
I mentioned Doping earlier on, mainly just for the fun, but somehow it is what we are talking about, why produce a GRAPHIC card which are able to produce amazing GRAPHICS, and then turn them off to gain speed on a GRAPHIC card.

It is a level playing field now and ATI has the same advantage at 3Dmark as Nvidia. I dont see why anyone would get upset as Nvidia has had this advantage for years.

there are many top 3dmark scores with zero LOD. if somone with an ATI card passes FCG's honest scores...

One way to look at it, but why lower the GRAPHIC standard on a GRAPHIC card.
Another way could be that Nvidia were forced to stop use the "doping".

this is the same thing as saying why people benchmark

    why people overclock

    why people benchmark with artifacts

why do people benchmark with systems that are not 100% prime stable and other nonsense

xtreme overclocking in my mind means squeezing every last drop of performance from every component that can be "pushed".

Hell i've been wondering why people were beating me in Nature for so long and it was obviously a "secret tweak" for me until the other day......

I made a thread about the horrid image quaility of Nvidia and no one really cared but Poki was put to the challange and he delivered the goods to level the playing field.

    Thanks again Poki

Well. It is just like lowering the detail in drivers, just a "little" more xtreme, right?
    Who doesn't do this?

^^ nice result.. I went from 33185 to 36019, but meanwhile i also changed from a 3000+ venice to a Opteron 146 about 70mhz difference in overclock.. but i went from 275fps in nature to 320 I really like it, BTW i also only used LOD tweak in Nature, because the other tests had bad results with it. Look at sig for link

can you explain what you mean........

i did notice i scored higher without tweaks in first test.....but how can you apply the tweak to ONLY run in Nature

Does LOD tweaks yield any gains in 03 and 05?

it yeilds gains in pretty much all situations where the graphics card is the main system bottleneck.
+LODs mean that the GC can process textures a lot faster as they are of much poorer quality. its almost like lowering resolution to ease strain on the card, this would begin to make the CPU your main bottleneck. if you want to have +LOD to bench with you need to ensure your CPU is able to keep up, you'll still gain points though.

So why is it customary to post specs in sigs anyway?

No you can't compare a CPU to a Graphic card. The cpu IS about speed, whereas a Graphic card is about, well, mainly Graphics, speed is just a reason to produce those Graphics, and should be keept at the level the card applies to.
So in order, just my two cents, to enjoy those Graphics, you can speed up your gpu, but lowering the detail to a level, where an old card could compete in detail, i see no reasoning in.

i agree with you about graphics.......and of course i'll wind the clocks down and LOD to default for normal 24/7 PC opteration

LOD looks ridiculous.....no question about it........but for benchmarking well....different story....

sooo Nvidia guys have this enabled in drivers already or how does it work....

i'd be happy to go either way LOD or no LOD as long as everyone's the same

Same clocks (793/900) no lod and with lod +1 in high tests and nature +3, low tests both runs at 0. Bad car low in second run. Same cl as in 45k test would make a difference of +/- 1140 overall.

    Nice find, ty very much

Looks about like the huge Nature gains Nvidia cards have been getting for a long time, crazy. All I can say is if people have any balls they will mention LOD in their project descriptions
