Question (Simulated) GeForce 7900GTX, and 7900GT scores!

I know some of you guys have those overclockable 7800GTX 512 cards!
Could you please set them on 655 MHz / 1600 MHz so that we can see how will 7900GTX score!? Also Can you underclock them on 7900GT levels (450/1350) so that we can see those performances also?

    Thanx

You will not get the same results just by having the same clocks. The 7900 isn't just a die shrink, there are other optimizations I am sure...

OK. Sorry guys, but mine intention was good one! G71 is really ONLY die shrink! ‘vida has not done ANY other architecture changes! So we could really have dose scores in this thread! So don’t delete the thread, just put the damn scores in it!

aww it would have been too good, rd580 scores and 7900 scores in 24 hours or so
    me--> <-- nedjo
    <--same

and even though i'm an ati fanboy, i don't believe it was just a die shrink, even if it has the same amount of pipes, they must have done something in the last 10 months

No, they definitely didn’t do anything on the 3D graphics level! H.264 acceleration is the new thing, but 3D architecture stays the same! 24 Pixel Shader pipes (grouped in 6 quads), same number of Texture Management Units – 24, and the same number of ROP’s – 16! So they stick to symmetric architecture.

I guess you havn't read that the floating-point performance is twice as good as 7800? Not verified thou...

That is groundless statement! To do such performance upgrade the whole shader pipe would need to be redesigned, and GPU will at least be called… say G75! No, really that is silly “news”, sillier then bunch of pre-yesterday stories about 8 quad architecture!

Ofcourse double performance is just talk, but ofcourse they have done some optimizations on the architecture and it is going to bee better than G70 at the same clocks. G71 is just an updated version of G70, not a completley new architecture.

    Groundless? -> http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=915

And they have got som really good info on nvidias products that are confirmed latley...

    And PLEASE, change the topic!

What's the ground of your statements. I think that what you say quite true, I posted this already in the 7900 thread. But you can't just state it if you have no ground for your statement. Atleast that's what you're saying yourself.

No it's not. It said "previous generation" which refers to the 6800 series. The 7900 will be nothing more than a die shrunk G70 with a higher core frequency and lower memory frequency vs the 512 GTX.

Don't you think nvidia counts 7800 as a previous generation? I think they do.

My guess is that G71 has 24 ROPs instead of G70's 16 ROPs.

What good would extra ROPs do? I can't see any major benefit.

    Yes, I do

I did check couple numbers on some reviews about specs for GTX512, and compared those numbers with one from anandtech news (dailytech)

    7900GTX

    • PCIe native
    • 655MHz core frequency
    • 256-bit memory interface
    • 52GB/sec. memory bandwidth
    • 15B pixels/sec. fill rate
    • 1450M vertices/sec.
    • 24 pixels per cycle

    7800GTX 512:

    • PCIe native
    • 550MHz core frequency
    • 256-bit memory interface
    • 54.4GB/sec. memory bandwidth
    • 8.8B pixels/sec. fill rate
    • 1100M vertices/sec.
    • 24 pixels per cycle

So, we have 19% faster GPU, but 70% bigger pixel fill rate, and 32% bigger vertex fill rate! So this really impicate significant architecture changes, and also implicatethat I’m wrong!

So, the question is, how did they achieved those fillrates, with the same number of processing units inside GPU?! Only thing that comes to mine mind is that 7900 GTX contrary to 7800GTX 512, does have different clock speeds of different units, just like 7800GTX 256 does have ! In the case of GTX512 whole GPU works on 550MHz!

Never the less it would still be interesting to see results of 7800GTX 512 clocked 655/1600, so that we can get slightly closer idea of 7900GTX performances. All previously written is telling that 7900GTX will really be faster then 7800GTX 512 on the same clocks!
Well, this argument has proven to be really educational

Sampsa, with even reduction of mem. BW, and same number of shading, and fetching units, there is no need to go beyond 16 ROPs!

BTW, Sampsa could you give us 7800GTX 512 scores on 7900GTX clocks??

You know what is really idiotic!? Thread where some one of the O/C champions achieve some insane score in “Jurassic-park-type-of-benchmark”, and bunch of members are creating dozens of thread pages with post that goes like this: “congarts man!! Can you crack 100 points more?!”

In here for a change, you could learn some thing about GPU’s! And I did changed topic in mine first post, but presumably, mod, or admin needs to change topic for the thread!
