Scored an IQYHA Mobile 2500+ - Let's see what it's got!

Today I bought a Mobile Barton 2500+ locally, I checked the stepping when I got home and it was an IQYHA, they -iirc- own!

So I changed the cpus over and seeing as my DDR booster for my BH5 STILL hasn't arrived, I am forced to run a low FSB or suffer the dreaded !divider!

I have hit 12.5x200=2500mhz on 1.8v, I'm not going for a high overclock for reasons I said above.

My goal is to hit 12.5x220=2750Mhz , I have no idea how much vcore it'll need, I have basic watercooling that handled a 2v barton ok.

What you think? Will I get much out of it?

2500mhz @ 1.8v sounds like its going to top out 2600-2700 with 2.0v

sounds reasonable. my old iqyha 2600-m did 2650 on 1.825v on water and 2750 with 1.92v with the same cooling (load at 42c).

don't be afraid to give it some voltage, but don't run a divider. dividers seriously kill performance on AXPs. if you have to, mod the mobo so you can get access to 13x+ multis.

Last owner had it at 12x222 at 1.8v (2660Mhz), but I can't test that until I get my booster, I think I'm running the vcore higher than it needs to be, I have only JUST started overclocking it

edit: I can select 13x, but it wont boot, this is what you are talking about cirthix?

Not nominal compared to what I did.

I paid $50aud for this unlocked CPU, an athlon64 upgrade will cost hundreds once I buy cpu/mobo/gfx and I'm selling the 2600+ i had in there for $50 too, $0 out of pocket

anyway, it was my dream to overclock one of these :P

... and one should always live out it's dreams

If the CPU does 2,6GHz at 1,8V then it's a good one, otherwise it's just as good as an old barton (not the mobile ones). My old Barton did 222*11 at 1,725V and topped out at 2,75GHz.

Good luck with it take out the soldering iron and start moddin' that motherboard! Who needs a booster?

    nice chip

yes, you can either modify the cpu or the motherboard (sometimes just bios will do it) to gain access to the higher multipliers. the reason is that multipliers under 12.5x use a 4-bit scheme and the multipliers above 12.5x use a 5 bit one. when you use the higher multipliers with a low-multiplier chip, you lose the first bit (it gets shorted to ground) and you don't get the proper multi.

0 is always a good number.

I held out on A64 for a long while, but was extremely happy I did. blistering fast compared to AXP at 2.8ghz

Thanks, I seriously considered vdimm modding the board, but I don't have the tools for it at home, only person I know who does lives quite a drive away.

EDIT: this chip does 12x200 at 1.7v

Ok, I'm not entirely sure what's causing this...

I have had this CPU post at 2.7ghz 12x225 or 12.5x200 I can't remember, but it posted and goes to load windows and I get a blank screen, RAM is running divided also, because of the lack of a DDR booster, but I can post with all sorts of combinations, but wont boot? - Just gives a blank screen, could be one or more of these causing it:

1)RAM hating dividers and unable to overclock either atm because of lack of vdimm
    2)This mobile CPU is whacked
    3)Motherboard has problems

Also, I am running right now 12.5x200 with the vcore set to 1.85v in the NF7s BIOS, but it is widely known that this board does undervolt vcore so windows is correct in readint it as around 1.79v-1.84v, I played nfsmw for an hour and a half, game crashed, temp was 45C for CPU - fine

I ran prime95 for about the same length, it also dies in the arse with an dont send error for prime95.

now I'm thinking it isn't the vcore making it unstable if this cpu is known to do 2.66 on 1.8v,

I got it to post at 2.7ghz on a vcore as low as 1.9v, so what you other guru's reckon?

    I had 2x 2500Mobile. The best one did 2.5ghz 1.625v on a A7N8X-E and 2.7ghz 1.8v on a NF7-S. Great cpu

I had an IQYHA mobile over a year ago that was balls. At 1.95v it barely did 2.47ghz.

Pretty weak. I had a 1700+ JIUHB which was perfectly stable at 2.5GHz/1.75V on crap cooling.
The last one I had was a 1800+ JIUHB@2.4GHz. Let's just say it was average. With a bit of better cooling, I have no doubt that it would have scored over 2.6GHz. Socket A is not my interest anymore, evolution has its normal course. Better luck next time!

Nah, no mods done, but I memtested the BH5 (DDR booster order delayed) on 220 2-2-2-11 2.9v (board's max) and it failed

I know now that the RAM is stable at 210 2-2-2-11 2.9v :

    I am running this now:

Also pulled off a 39s superPI at a lower clockspeed than the old 2600+
    http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y21...i39s222fsb.jpg - only pi1m stable I think

Hopefully when I get the booster I can ramp up the fsb/mem on 11.5 or 12 multi and get somewhere over 2.6

I have 2 x 2400 mobile IQYHA (1 spare), and I can run at 2500mhz (227x11) @ 1.82v. I've never owned BH-5, but my board doesn't have any decent voltage options in the bios anyways. From what I've read in the past, NF2 chipset does not like ram dividers at all. I have never been able to make them work on mine. L-12 mod helped with stability though. I do like your SPi time btw. I've never been able to get faster than 40sec on 1m. Grats and good luck on your new chip Morgoth

Thanks alot, but I don't think my problem is highFSB for some reason, once I get this RAM under the booster I shall sort it all out good and proper
