    IHS removal and Koolance waterblocks

    Hey people

im looking to remove my IHS (3500 newcastle, yeh i got it ages ago lol)
im using Koolance watercooling at the moment an was wondering how the loss of height on the CPU might affect how the block makes contact.

now i know there are the 2 tension screws, 1 for older socket A XP CPUs and another one for intel an A64 CPUs, im assuming that the XP screw is used because they dont have the IHS on, and visa versa.

thing im wondering is if by removing the IHS would it be best to use the XP screw due to the possilbe fragility of the core, or should i keep the A64 screw in due to the lack of height in the CPU?

im leaning towards using the XP screw as the screws are based on tension over height, however some more opinions or previous exp. or knowledge would be great

    thanks in advance,

So why is it customary to post specs in sigs anyway?

I've run several koolance blocks on naked A64's and it works great. You need to either buy a longer bolt at a hardware store OR you can use a peice of plastic as a spacer between the block and orgianal koolance bolt. Either way works fine, if your worried about too much tension using a bolt other than the koolance one then just use a spacer.

Try the search button, "koolance" and you should find a couple of different posts aobut this.
