    Sun UltraSparc T1 multiCore

Sun announced two new servers at their Network Computer Launch Q4 2005. The SunFire T1000 and T2000 feature their new UltraSparc T1 "Niagara" processor.

The UltraSparc T1 is a multicore processor with 4, 6 or 8 cores (each core is 4 threaded) depending on the model. They run at 1.0 and 1.2 ghz and the fastest of them needs only 79 watts on load. This is what the call CoolThreads and what we know by performance/watts.

The T1000 is 1U and starts at U$2995 and the T2000 is 2U and starts at U$7795.
