    7800GT pipelines unlocked?

    Hello,

yesterday ma friend said that a guy has unlocked the 4 other pipelines on a 7800gt. It is true or wrong?
With rivatuner I can activate the pipes and shader but after the reboot I have my old settings. The active pipes dont stay...

    Thanks for help

I was thinking about the same thing tonight, since I just ordered a couple of these, and came across this thread.

The 7800GT is just a GTX that did not test as a stable card so they downclock it and disable the pipes and shader. The question is, how are they disabling these card components/abilities? The fact that he can enable them temporarily via RTuner is interesting.

    **EDIT**

Ignore the above question regarding how the pipes were disabled...found this thread which answers the question.

You can see the disabled pipes in rivatuner, but you cannot do anything about it...unfortunatly. Otherwise no one would've bought GTX's

yep, the four missing pipes are laser-cut, totally impossible to enable them

guess nVidia learned the hard way after all the unlocked 6800nu

That's probobly a early soft locked reference sample, it doesn't work now. And that one at hkepc is the only one that has been unlocked afaik

Would be pretty sweet tho. I dont think I would have bought my GTX if I could have unlocked the GT's pipes.. Eh, GT scores pretty good anyhow. I only have about a 2k lead in 3dmark05. From the 7800GT I had, and this card, and I didnt even overclock the 7800GT. I had to overclock this 7800GTX to get the 9200.

    Eh.
