    i want 3ghz so bad

my system specs are in my sig.

i can boot into windows no problem at 3ghz but prime and super pi fail .. yet i can game .. etc .. it has to be something in my ram part of the bios .. like the drive str or something .. no matter what the vcore or anything ..
im running Tony's bios on my sli-dr expert

    the cpu is a opteron 150 .. right now im just running at 12x242 @ 2904mhz at 1.488 according to cpu-z and smart guardian 1.4 + 107%

    temps are no problem ..

here is the info on the cpu

    AMD64 TCaseMax - v1.13

hi buddy, now here is what my setting for the micron 2gb set by Team
hope it helps. The Driving and data strength might be better set for &/4 or 7/3 for Tony's 11/18 Mod bios.

How about other timings? Tref? Trrd?lower your bypass max a bit?
There are tons of way to do that, just the matter you might get crazy before you remember all the tricks.

alot of times .. super pi 1m will just freeze or get half way and then error out .. its really weird ..

this cpu can definitely do 3ghz .. it just seems like getting my ram stable over 242fsb on this board is more then a challenge .. on the sli-dr .. i had no problems running 260

u think i should flash to the straight 11-11 bios instead of tonys ?

im trying to go all loose .. with the settings but who knows

right now im running 8/4 for drive str and data str

    7ns for max async
    5.0 for read preamble

max async & read preamble could be too tight. You might try both on auto, sometimes read preamble 7.5 helps on opterons.

btw we have nearly same problem (opteron @ 3ghz and ballistix runnin' good)
only difference is that i've got a 146.

    thanks ..

tried them both .. no luck .. anyways it looks like im stuck with 2904 .. 12x242 .. anytthing higher and i can get it to pass 1m pi .. but fails in 32m ..
really sucks .. the guy i got the cpu from did 2950 10x295 with crucial ballistix at 1.45 no problem ..

o well .. im sure if someone else tried this cpu it would hit over 3 on air ..

i really want 3ghz .. maybe i can sell for a dual core .. im just so frustrated

try more vcore maybe? < 1.5v is kinda low imo... somewhere around 1.5-1.53v got me 3ghz stable on both 146's i tested... and with the 148 it needed a little more...

i dunno why it keeps failing at anything above 242fsb .. i boot into windows at 12x250 or 11x273 .. which are both 3ghz no matter what the vcore .. and it fails prime .. etc .. same with anything above 242fsb .. it has to be a setting in the bios .. i just cant figure it out

might also be that im running a 4 pin power connector instead of 8 but thats just wishful thinking .. hopefully ill have an adapter on wensday so i can give it a try

anyone know how i can get past this 242fsb wall i cant get past .. it really sucks

anyways i belive its required for stability above 250htt i think so maybe its whats holding you back

So, yeah I can co-miserate with you. I've got the identical processor, and the identical clock celing. No matter what divider or HTT i've tried. Although I've come to a slightly different conclusion than you.
    My observations:
    1. I can clock this 150 up to 3100 or so just fine. But like you it games and runs windows flawlessly. But WILL NOT prime at anything above 240 (@12x multi 290@10x and so on)
    2. I can push my BH-5 up to 263 with no issues whatsoever while keeping the processor multi low.

These observations have led me to believe that the problem isn't the memory(controller), but the actual core itself. I've tried everything memory wise and absolutly no change whatsoever. and any core voltage after that magic 2880-2900 range does nothing whatsoever. thats it pfft, done. it won't prime/super-pi higher. It never blue screens or gets unstable though, thats what kills me. never seen a processor behave like this myself. Usually when its been pushed to far, it won't boot or will crash or apps will choke. I haven't seen that at all. It just won't prime after 2900.

Not too helpful but just letting you know you're not the only one with this same problem. Keep me posted if you have an epiphany

edit, in the interest of parity, here's my MaxT

at least u can run 286fsb ... 10x286 .. i cant .. i cant even run 11x264 which is the same speed as 12x242 .. primes for about an hour and then fails

you know what disturbs me most about this is the sensitivity of super pi. any of the other 20+ or so a64's i've owned have always had a higher tolerance. Like last night, i set prime to go overnight at 268, woke up no problem still priming. i stopped it. but then without doing anything else ran super pi 1m and it failed on the 4th loop. not only failed, but totally crashed out, submit error report.

then i started prime up again, set super pi to realtime and while priming ran it again. completed a 32m no problem.
    splain me that

even clocking way way down on both mem and cpu super pi will sometimes fail.
