    venice 2000 @ 2600. Good enough??

Hey, i have a venice E6 (the sucky ones i heard). It's got 10x200 by default.
Just to see how much beating it can take (no actual going for performance) I pushed it to 260 x 10. It doesn't want to go past that!

My memory is ty, needs an upgrade so I left it at DDR 133 or 166 don remember. Funny thing about Epox MoBo, it doesn't let you specify your own divider. So even tho i tell it don't go past 200 it will just take CPU/int and maybe end up with 230 which kills my whole system coz the memory is just so sucky.

Anyway, i'm not sure what to do, my stores policy will allow me to return this chip. That's at stock voltage btw, and runs around 40C. Increasing the voltage doesn't help my OC for some reason.

So tell me, can i improve something, should i go for a new chip? Is this one still a good venice? I was kinda hoping to hit 3Ghz...

anyway i'll be around great site your running here!
Hope for fast answers so i can choose which wasy to go...
thx and god, jah or who you believe in, BLess =)

well I don't know your mobo but maybe that's more the problem than the chip.
nevertheless an opti should give you more room for clocking
3 GHZ on a venice on air isn't that easy, 2.7-2.8GHZ is more realistic

    my rig in my sig

well i'm new to amd, but what i can see is that opty has no sse3 or its damn expensive if it does have it. Reviews and Benchmarks tell me that venice is really really good for gaming. Tomshardware - Mother of all CPU charts.
But well.. i got this one for 120euros, how much for an nicely overclockable opty?

If I manage to get this stable at 2.8 should i be happy with a nicely overclockable Venice? Not before that tho, right?

One more amd beginner question: I have HTT 1Ghz.
Now if i overclock this and i leave htt multiplier to 5x i get htt 1.3Ghz.
If I overclock for performance and i do 355 on fsb, i'll get HTT 5x355= 1760!
That's a lot. My guess is I should always reduce the htt multiplier to keep it around 1Ghz to make sure my CPU stay fine.
    Why i'm in XtremeSystems:

5n1p3r: I got a Venice and I'm running it 10x260. Is this a good venice?
S&M: take it to Amd section ...

this is what you can read in all guides - lower your htt multi!!!
let it unchanged is a save way to crash your windows totally!
whenever i forgot to set it to 3x and went >260HTT I blow up my bench windows.
this happened several times to me so be sure it is 3 or in your case when having 355 even lower.

opterons cost more cause they usualy clock higher with less voltage.
and yeah you should keep ur HTT around 1Ghz.

I got systool from techpowerup and use the system stability test. The systool always crashes when i'm running that whether oveclocked or not! Why??? Benchmarks and other CPU intensive things run it ok tho.

Thanks for all the input... i'm kind of going towards sending it back and getting a new one. Either one with E3 stepping and 1800 default (i don't need the extra multiplier obviously - didn't knwo that before) or an opteron but thats really expensive and i don't think i can afford it right now.
Dam it what i own is allready pretty good for a student =)

yep it's the 3200+. Said 2000 for the stock Speed. My Bad =)

I managed to get it 8 x 340 (2720) with 1.6 V. IT still doesn't go over 45C so I have a feeling it could go faster because my cpu fan is running only 1200RPM.

    is it a keeper?
