    G.Skill 2x512MB PC4400FC

    Warning for extreme use only!

Several days ago I received a set of G.skill PC4400FC’s. The new, bright yellow design on the heatspreaders reminded me that this is a new generation of G.Skill. G.Skill is known for their extreme, high end TCCD, so I couldn’t wait to try these out.

The PC4400FC’s are rated for 2.5-4-4-8 (PC4400) @ 2.7-2.9v. According to G.Skill, all the new sets are going to be solely TCCD based, and just to make sure I took a little peak and sure enough they are Samsung TCCD 0516. There had been rumors that TCCD was being phased out and replaced with TCC5, but this seems to dispel these rumors.

The test setup is an AMD socket 939 Opteron 146 on a DFI LP NF4 Ulra-D (what else would I use?). Also since this Opteron is a 10 multiplier chip, I ran everthing with the 10x multiplier at a 1:1 ratio.

The PC4400FC’s are rated for 2.5-4-4-8, but who wants to run memory at its rated speed? I immediately put them at 2.5-3-3-6 with 2.7v. Now for some reason this set didn’t like 2.7v so I put them at 2.8v and they ran just fine.

To get the ram to 285, I had to loosen the TRCD to 4. Even with 2.9v, TRCD-3 wouldn’t work. This is typical of TCCD sets though, TRCD-4 works much better than 3 and doesn’t negatively impact performance too much. So the timings were 2.5-4-3-6 and I maintained voltage at 2.8v, which seems to be the sweet spot on this set.

Now up to 295 with the exact same settings

    Same settings again at 305

The ram really likes 2.5-4-3-6 with 2.8 volts, here is 310.

With 2.5-4-3-6 and 2.8 volts, the set maxed out at 312.

This is a great set of ram. First of all, it managed to do DDR624 with 2.5-4-3-6 with 2.8 volts, which is comparable to any above-average set of TCCD. Also, keep in mind that the ram would probably go further. The set is rated for 2.5-4-4-8, and it did 312 with tighter timings than this! The best part is that it’s fairly inexpensive for high end TCCD, $170 at newegg. If you’re going to overclock with a high FSB/HTT, this is a great set of ram.

    PC4800 TCCD LA 2x512MB

Looked nice, but couldn't pass 286MHz stable, due to 875i chipset limit. I eventually found out the chipset is allergic to TCCD, and only really likes Hynix passed them speeds!

Dude, that's only 2x256 and just memtest 86.
    We've already seen DDR690 from 2x256 completing SuperPi 32M.
