My electricity bill almost doubled with the 3-4 machines that I am running for folding. I am seriously thinking about switching to some A64 X2 machines, but would like to know if spending the extra money will pay of sufficiently in reduced power bill. Any input from fellow folders using X2 cpus?

I don't crunch with XS~F@H, but with XS~Rosetta. But for some input as to A64 x2's and DC chips...

I am running 9 DC (X2 or Opty 1xx ), 4 Dual Xeon and 2 SC A64 boxes.
Last year I was running 20 or so AXP boxes, with a few DX's thrown in. My power bill is now a lot less, and my output is higher. 15 PSUs vs 25...

With the recent drop in x2 prices and the tendency of power costs to rise, I would say go for it.

x2's are tempting & nows the time with the prices low - I wish I'd gone for cheap 939 boards when I put my machines together, instead if the jumble of 775/754/478/939 madness I have currently - it would be a nice, easy upgrade to x2 then.

Thanks for giving me such a warm welcome. Sorry you guys. I changed the sn I was using for the "other" folding team. I had 44 WU's completed but after I changed my sn to the one I use at XS I had to start all over.

I leave my computers on 24/7 so now they are actually doing something so the wife cant about it.

BTW: I just suspect running GPU&SMP client at same machine can be messy and destroy output (and data) of smp client
But if you're still willing to try that then... I believe dak1640 can give us some light about the issues to guide you over probs on that when the time comes

You running 24/7? If you are a little extra cooling for the PS3 might not be a bad idea. IIRC they had a cooling issue on release, not sure if that was fixed or not. Or am I thinking of the xbox360, I can't remember....!

Well I finally made top 20, so I might as well introduce myself. I have a C2D rig and a PS3 folding 24/7, along with a few other computers on and off. When intel releases their 45nm quads, I'll have one of those on the job too.

Also, I haven't had a problem with the PS3's cooling. Just make sure you don't let dust build up around the vents.

Sounds good man! Thanks for that clarification on the PS3 cooling. Seems I was mistaken, must have been the xbox360 I was thinking of that had cooling issues.
