Opteron 144 or 146 for BH-5 at 250 with dividers?

    Hi,

Just about to get a new system. Gonna go with an Opteron 144 or 146 but was slightly unsure which to go for, as not entirely sure which mem dividers are available.

I know my BH-5 does 250 - 260, so would the 144 have a high enough multiplier to allow me to run my RAM at that speed using a divider while running at a typical overclock the 144's are getting at say 3000 - 3100 mhz? or should I go for the 146 to allow the use of more dividers for a 3000 - 3100 mhz overclock?

    Any help much appreciated!

The dividers won't be an issue G-Man....you'll be able to run the same memory speeds with both Opties. What should be more of a concern to you is how well they clock and if the extra 50-70MHz the 146 seems to get (CABNE statistic, not the newer CABGE--still too preliminary) is worth it to you.

Yes it is. CABGE doesn't have enough results to guage how well the 146s do vs. the 144s though.

Do you know if the CABNE are the ones that CPU city has?

Doubtful....VERY doubtful, CABNEs all seem to be gone (good thing I picked one up in time!).

Got a link to the CPUCity ones? IIRC, I remember reading someone say they were the even-less-tested CABYEs.

Interesting that CPU City states 1 year warranty
    http://www.cpucityshop.co.uk/product...roducts_id=887

    While AMD states 3 years,

I'd bet those are CABGEs for the 144s and 146 and CABYEs for the 148s.

Only the one CABYE result? If theres a couple of confirming CABYE results from several people I think I may risk buying a 148 from CpuCityStore later on today.

Ah, decisions decisions.....do I wait for the results first, and risk getting a different batch.....or do I buy now, likely getting a CABYE, and then find out that that CABYE was a one off wonder...?

The CABYE's are looking a bit like CABGE's, at least from my experience with one. With stock voltage my CABYE is stable up to 2.6GHz, with 1.55v it goes to 2.75GHz. Looks like it's performing like a 3700+ SD core rather than a FX-57. Still it's a good deal, a 3700+ for the price of a 3200+.

Dammit, 230quid, isn't cheap for some clocking fun. ive only got an Asus A8n-E, 1.5vcore max, and crappy memory. using XP90C, dunno wether to get one. My X2 4400 does 2600mhz on less than 1.4, probly not worth it, unless 3ghz was a cert.
