    Need Help Choosing a PSU

I'm in the market for a new PSU, but I am having trouble finding one that fits my needs. I was wondering if you guys could provide any insight?

    Here are my specs:

    Core i7 920 @ 4.4GHz, 1.45v
    EVGA Classified E760
    EVGA GTX470 800/2000
    Corsair Dominator GT 3x 2GB 1600MHz @ 7-7-7-20, 1.65v
    WD VelociRaptor 300GB
    Seagate 7200.10 500GB
    2x DDC 3.25 pumps
    DVD burner
    ~5 strips of LED lights
    5 Scythe GentleTyphoon 1850RPM 120mm fans
    ~3 powered USB devices
    Aquaero Controller

Using a PSU calculator, I estimate that I need about 850W to run my current setup, but I want enough headroom so I can add a second GTX470 in the future. I also need the PSU to be fully modular (including the 24 pin) so that narrows my choices basically down to the Corsair AX, the Seasonic X, and the Silverstone ST PSUs.

Would 1000W be enough, or should I opt for 1200W?
    Regards,
    Chris

1000w will easily give you enough headroom to run the above system plus an additional 470 if you desire later on, but if you have upgrade plans beyond that, invest in a good 1200w unit, and it'll be the last PSU you ever buy.

yeah 1000 is enough. a good corsair tx 750 will actually run that rig, but if your wanting the 2nd 470 later on, then yeah, go 1000. I'd recommend Corsair HX1000,

Thanks for the advice, guys. I'll probably just wait until the new Seasonic and Corsair units hit the shelves as I want the PSU to be fully modular. I'll probably just go for a 1000-X, but maybe I'll splurge on an AX1200.
    Regards,
    Chris

you can actually pass with a corsair HX850 for your i7 and gtx470 SLI. this PSU is able to run 480's in SLI. if you still worry, then the corsair HX1000 will be more than enough. now if you want the best efficiency, then wait until the corsair AX series or seasonic's new series comes out.

Same, 1000w will cover your future 470, but if you want to add more than that at a later stage, get the 1200w.

I usually like my PSUs to overlap the next generation of hardware (why I bought a 700W when I got my X48/HD4870), so ideally I'd like this PSU to be able to run the higher-end SandyBridge platform plus the next generation of graphics cards. So I'll probably get a 1000W at least.

Corsair/Silverstone/Seasonic/Enermax are the big names which all have solid 12v rails, so look for those names when purchasing power supplies

Another thing I find funny is AMD/Intel would snipe any of our Moms on a grocery run if it meant good quarterly results, and you are forever whining about what feser did?

I was looking at the Silverstone ST1000P and ST1200 but seeing as they didn't get outstanding reviews on Jonny Guru, I'll just wait for the new Seasonic and Corsair units.
