    P4M 3.2 works on normal motherboard ?

could buy a P4M 3.2 (533 HT) cheap, but would like to know if it will work on a normal S478 motherboard ?

read somewhere it will default to the lowest multiplier, if so, can I change it back in bios ?

theoretically yes, but you won't be able to use a stock heatsink without a heatspreader (as the Ms don't have heatspreaders) I recommend, however, bumping down to the 12X cpu multi and upping the bus to 266FSB*4; that'll boost performance heaps

ehm, this CPU has a IHS, it's not a Dothan.

The first link below will give you some good info on the use of a mobile in a desktop motherboard.

The second link is to a possible (and I mean possible only) solution to the locked multiplier issue.

The use of the mobile P4s on the desktop has interested me as well, but other than obtain information, I have not been able to pursue this any further due to time contraints. I would certainly be intereted in hearing how things go for you if you go this route.

    Hope the links are helpfull.

    Edit:
The issue with the multi is, of course, that a mobile P4 will default to the 12 multi (Prescotts might be 14) which at 200 fsb is the same as a 2.4B (no hyperthreading). Unless you have the ability to hit high fsb, then the 3.2 will basically be underclocked. It will however probably run much cooler than a normal P4 due to its lower voltage requirements.

I though about that bios on P4C800 wich alowed you to change multi on some PIV's. (prescott).
so, would this not work on a mobile ?

I believe that the mechanism for being able to change the multi on some of the Prescotts is not the same as what is used on the Northwood mobiles.

And be aware that Asus stopped supporting the mobiles after a certain BIOS (it is in that first link, towards the end, I believe), but in order to be able to change the multi in the Prescott, it requires one of the relatively newer BIOS releases.

I am going to try to get my mobile p4 going...I actually have a couple so I'm going to set one up using the DFI 875 board, just like the one bigtoe used in that linked thread, and then also set up another one using the Asus P4C800-E. Then I am going to attempt to use the software that I linked to and see if I get any favorable results. This will probably take me several days to accomplish...again due to time constraints.

I'll post here with whatever results I get.

CPU arrived in good condition, it boots at 1.6 ghz on 1.2v.
    like I suspected

working with a XFX 865PE-ALX and can change fsb up to 166 mhz
ASUS P4C800 is on its way, so may update soon.

one question, since this mobo doesn't support vcore adjustment, is the pin mod on mobiles the same as on the "old" northwood ?
