Could anybody recommend me a good gaming lcd in the 300-400 eur range? I mostly play fps games so no lag please. I'm going to watch some media on it too so would 16:10 or 16:9 be better?

I do not have European pricing, but typically in LCD monitors, 16x10 will be your PC monitors, while 16x9 are LCD TVs. Due to the shape of the shadow mask, if you do any technical drawing, you will want to stay away from LCD TVs since they stagger the pixels, so a straight line looks a little more jagged than on an LCD Monitor.

If all you need this for is gaming and videos, I would say an LCD TV is just fine.

It will be just those activities mainly yes. I want to buy a proper monitor not tv. There is monitors with both shapes 16:10 AND 16:9 was asking which would you recommend based on usage. I'm not going to hook any console or something like that in it btw.

I would personaly go for 16:10 simply because it gives more visible area which is especially useful when browsing.

has anyone bought an eizo before? I see these guys go for top dollar, are they thaaatt great in PQ? i suppose if you are not a professional then it wont be worth getting one of these guys?

I haven't bought a truly "good" LCD monitor since 2003 and I'm hoping someone can help me with my current dilemma - I just don't keep up with this market like I should. This may get long, but please do me a favor and read it through.

Basically, I need two identical monitors in the 21.5-24" range for a home office... and one needs to double as an HDTV (temporarily). The situation is this: I have a home office area, but won't be using it properly for about 1-2 months. In the meantime, I don't have a TV (though I do have a receiver and speakers) so you can see where this is going. I figure I should try to kill two birds with one stone for now and in 1-2 months when the monitor migrates to the office area I'll buy a proper television.


Now, as one of the two monitors will double as an HDTV for a bit I would highly, highly prefer an HDMI input. Because I have this crazy notion of hooking it up to something like a PS3 or Xbox 360 the ability to play games would be great, but color correctness and black control will be greatly valued.


Being that I am a complete n00b as regards current monitor offerings/quality I have migrated over to Dell.com because their specs are at least more complete than most (regarding at least basic panel types), and I was wondering about whether anyone has any comments about an Alienware Optix AW2210? It's not that I'm particularly in favor of Alienware or anything, but in general they do provide (overpriced) quality products with an excellent warranty. I'm positive there must be a cheaper alternative, but I'm not sure what they are.


So.. yeah. Any thoughts on preferably cheaper alternatives? $300USD / monitor is really my absolute max for this project as they will be largely dormant office monitors and I would love to come in well under it if possible. I see a person can get a 21.5" monitor for around half of that these days, but I guess my concern there would be how one of them would preform with a gaming console/movie input (temporarily) and how the blacks/colors would appear on them (long term).

i have a samsung t260... samsung do a t260hd 25.5inch with tv tuner... samsung also produce 22" versions...

Mmm i dont know if its the best monitor but I have a SyncMaster 2493HM from Samsung and its 1920x1200 1080p its about 3xx $ . So far the picture is awsome and no dead pixels , Tho its a bit bright but so are all the HD monitors and TVs .

I have a Samsung T220, and I have been very happy with it. Samsung has good quality with their LCD products; stuck/dead pixels aren't common, if even rare. The 22" version has a 2ms response time and a 20,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, great for fast paced gaming and movies with little ghosting. Although the ports on the T220 are limited to 1xVGA and 1xDVI, which is fine for gaming and PC applications... if you need more ports... specifically HDMI or something, anything past the T240 has it. Typically have HDMI, VGA, DVI, 2x USB, and digital / 1/8" audio ports, although the response time is up to 5ms at that point. On Newegg, the T220 goes for $260 USD and the T240 for $310 USD.

Take a look at the ASUS line of monitors. They are priced well and perform great as I have the 25.5 inch and love it. Has every hookup one would need including component and HDMI. You can grab 2-24' for about 400 or 2-25.5 for 600.

Anyone here runing this LCD ? i have an LG 226WTQ 2ms 16:10 and can sell it in my country for good price and upgrade to the Samsung Syncmaster
P2370 23" 2ms 16:9

Seems a very good monitor but i really don't know what about the 16:9 relation if its good for all day use and games

My actual LG is only 1680x1050 and this new one is full hd 1920x1080 wich temps me a lot.

There's not many options in my country so i spoted that one that seems the best around.

Any help i appreciatte

I'm going to buy a new LCD,perhaps it will be a Samsung F2080. I red about it here and it seems it's a very good monitor, but it has a slow matrix and it isn't good for gaming. At the moment I'm using a Orion LCD TV which is made in Turkey, and I suppose it is even worse than the Samsung F2080, but I'm still able to play games and watch movies without any problem.
I've seen the Samsung F2080 in a lokal shop, the colors looked a bit dull compared to the Asus and LG standing nearbuy, but the back light of the other two was bleeding so badly that you can see it even in the shop where the light is brighter than the sun.
So I'm going to use this monitor for work and gaming. I hate TN because even the slightest movement causes change in colors. Is there any other option or good enough LCD for a reasonable price. I was looking also at F2380 but I,m not sure that the extra 75 Euro for 3" more are worth, I have a big enough LCD TV.

I was just wondering why manufacturers can sell All in Ones with 12" 1280x800, or 18.5" 1366x768 screens, for $899 starting, and there are still no good looking multi-touch monitors to buy for a decent price to hook up to a regular PC?

its a great monitor, for a bit extra cash could get 24" Samsung 2443BW+ 24 Inch Widescreen LCD Monitor

Just to voice my experience, I have a Samsung P2570HD (has a TV tuner). The features looked great. I wanted something that could double as a TV, wanted 1080p resolution, etc.

It's acceptable but I'm not really that happy with it. The viewing angles are truly horrible IMO. When I watch TV, I sit with my eyes about even with the base of the stand, 8 feet away or so and I really can't see anything if the show or game I'm playing is dark/night time. If I stand up at my desk text is illegible and honestly, if your eyes are about even with the top of the monitor, the text at the bottom is difficult to read. You have to sit smack dab in the middle. I even end up slouching in my chair to get the optimal viewing angle. Very unsatisfactory.

The color reproduction also seems below par, even compared to my old Dell 20" monitor (2007FPW I think is the model). It looks as if it isn't reproducing a typical spectrum of color. Gradual changes in color aren't there. Even in Windows, window borders aren't so much shaded as lines going from white->blue, etc.

The backlight has some VERY severe bleed through at the bottom of the monitor. I just tried playing Call of Pripyat and at night the entire bottom of my screen is blue.

The more I critique this monitor, the more pissed off I get that I bought it. I should have shopped in person rather than relying on web ratings/reviews.

I'd put a Do Not Buy label on this line. Maybe the other sizes are better, this size (24.5" I think) is not a common one, maybe it just uses a crappy panel.

If anyone wants one, you know who to contact.

edit: I forgot to add. There are ZERO angle adjustments in the stand. You can't tilt it up or down period, and left and right just rotates the entire stand. Forget portrait view. I thought about getting a desk clamp VESA mount, but I'm not wasting any money on this thing.
