How does CPU/RAM OCs and timings effect production?

Is D2OL mostly reliant on CPU clock speed and L2 cache/memory timings don't matter or does bandwith play a big roll? Like would 3-4-4-8 value ram to 2-2-2-5 UTT make a difference? What about ram clocks? Difference between 512k and 1mb l2 cache A64s?

How many cands would a 2.53ghz tbred put out a day running dedicated D2OL? And how many cands would going from 2ghz to 2.5ghz on a newcastle gain? I have the urge to order an NF7-S for this tbred and a zalman cooler so I can OC my brothers newcastle

it is almost 100% cpu speed bound, so ram timings dont really matter and ram speed also doesnt make much difference. i havent noticed any difference between the 1mb cache and 512kb but i doubt its significant. the tbred is prob around 90-100 a day the newcastle is prob around 100 -110ish at 2ghz and 130-140 at 2.5ghz.

Cossey is right... here are some screen shots I made in a little experiment the first time that ram timings and FSB were discussed several months ago.

Both tests were on the same system with a K7 @ 2 ghz, 1 GB of ram @ 2.5-3-3-11 timings.

    At 10x200:

    At 20x100:

We had a Celeron D @ 3.8ghz doing around 120+ a day a couple months ago, so even on a P4, cache doesn't seem to make a whole lot of difference either.

An AXP @ 2.53 could produce 130+ a day if it is 100% dedicated to crunching.

Wow, hardly any difference! I guess I'll hunt down a good socket A board and hook up a dedicated cruncher!

Socket A is still a very good investment for d2ol ... although with those latest price cuts those new semprons look even more tempting. I just wish that new integrated video chipset from nvidia would come out.

Doesn't this take cpu power like every onboard graphics?

It takes memory bandwidth not CPU power, but D2OL type of apps are not memory bandwidth dependant.

And if you go socket A try to buy XPM2600+,the do a very good job,my xpm2600+ @ 2.4ghz does between 120/140 cans p/d,and that is with sucky ram,so you see it dosn't matter what you put in,its allways good, but on the other hand,we are XS and we wont to push that hardware as far as we can,to make the most candies possible.,so my other rigs are all running 2-2-2-5.

    Happy crunchen .

Well I got my DFI NF2 to work again, looks like I have a randomly dead 2100+ and an 1800+ DLT3C that wont take OC settings Maybe I'll get an XPM... Should clock well in my cold basement with watercooling.

Should clock very well with that. Depending on the 2600+ you get (all seem to clock similar, though) 2500 - 2600 mhz shouldn't be too much to ask for.

I have mine doing the same as rocker's (2400mhz) on air.
