Ah, the SMP client.... That can be a good thing or bad thing sometimes. I've found that the GPU client is usually pretty much trouble-free, but the SMP client, well.... let's just say it can get grumpy pretty easily It has been in "beta" for a few years if that tells you anything

Certainly glad to have you with us

I've seen you're running a QX@3.7GHz.. if you have enough RAM (at least 4GB), you could also try setting up 2 VMWare folding instances. All you need is VMWare Player or Server and the notfred folding vm.

Hey all, I'm a new member and I'm trying to decide between the combo of WCG and GPU GRID here, or FOLDING@HOME CPU/GPU. I have a 260 Gtx Core 216 oced to 673 mhz and a q6600 running @ 3.1 on air cooling. Let me know why I should choose XTREME SYSTEMS F@H instead of XTREME SYSTEMS GPUGRID/WCG.

Actually, what I do, is I run F@H for GPU, and WCG for CPU

thanks! i'm going to try running the smp client on it's own first, see if i can work out the kinks. if i can get it running smoothly, then i'll give vmware a shot.

    Been there and tried that.
The SMP native client is a pain in the ass and yeilds half of what the Linux SMP.

All you need is the VMware player, which is very stable and the nofred folding app.
Here is a simple guide that YMAA showed me.

    Welcome aboard.

Here is the link to the Guide on Xtreme Folding:
    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=197050

Also there are several good threads on various topics.
Not sure exactly what type of rig you have, but if you have questions just start a thread/post.
Lots of wisdom and knowledge within the members.
I myself am one of the newbies and have been helped vastly by others.

    Welcome to Xtreme Folding.

Pardon any speling or grammar mistakes as I'm typing one-handed atm

Seems it is the 260 that is having the most problems. 9800 seesm to be doing ok. I brought my 260 back here, tired of fighting with it.

Well I guess that means 260s on F@H, 9800s on the grid then.

    Whatever works!

I guess F@H being on BOINC would help but somehow I doubt that'll ever happen. Stanford is too good at coding for that

Just wanted to the new guys to the team.

Thats weird you guys are having problems with your 260's on the grid; I think most of the guys are running 260's. I can't speak as I have 6 275's and 1 9800gt.

3 275's on the grid now, and put 3 back to F@H along with my 9800gt which has remained on F@H the whole time I have had it.

and as others have said most put their cpu's on WCG ESPECIALLY the I7's

    Welcome aboard Bill

Nothing formal here just all family.
There are lots of great threads and posts that really will help with F@H.

If you have questions or interesting things please feel free to post them.
I am a fairly new member to F@H and as you may see I asked a lot of questions and the folks here really helped me get my rigs running efficiently.

Also, this forum does have penalties, but these are more enjoyable.
