    News: Windows Vista

Longhorn will be called Windows Vista when it releases next year.

this is already in the Windows OS section, but probably deserves to be in the news as well

not a fan of the name. not sure why, just longhorn sounds much better. to each their own i guess. as long as the os isn't ungodly slow i will be okay with it.

Turok, believe it or not, but I think they've descent all the way down to hip hop. Perhaps that's an ongoing internal rap battle?

And yea, about the name, why not just keep Longhorn? Longhorn has become widely accepted and recongnized throughout the people of the world, I think keeping that name would have been a smarter PR move (or at least spun further on it). That new name just shouts "alianate me" at us. Office Vista? Hell no!

^^ Of course, if they kept Longhorn, you'd have to refer to yourself as currently using Windows Whistler.

Longhorn was a codename amongst developers, just like Whistler was for xp. It needed a real name...Granted, this might not have been my first choice...Whatever, Vista it is.
    That is all.

    Peace and love.

They were ("Odyssey," "Neptune," "Mars") for a while, and before that they were using city names ("Chicago," "Detroit," "Memphis"). But now they've turned to mountain names: Whistler and Blackcomb are popular ski resorts a few hours from Seattle, located in British Columbia, and Longhorn, the next interim release, is a tavern at the base of Whistler mountain. However, the space names continue with other projects: The new Whistler user interface found in Windows XP was code-named "Luna."

getting the beta 1 release so close maybe vista is just th beta name

Yeah, thats what mostly s**ks about M$
They buy off everything and everything becomes compatible to M$
If this new Windows ends up buggy, then technology is progressing slow since SSE3, 64-bit, Dual core, and all that stuff will still s**k
Takes a hell of a lot of time for a next OS to release
Several OS in between Win 98 and Win XP have s**ked and werent really woth updating

Would be nice to hear from some Beta users

Totally never made the connection between the Longhorn in BC and M$. BTW the drive is about 6 hours from Seattle, but worth it for the skiing.

Vista is a terrible name. SHould have been Window's 2005, paying homage to Win 95.
