Thread: Nice score by K|ngP|n in 2001 with dothan

No updates at all.....problems with mobo/vreg = no benches.
I'm about to throw in the towel for this setup , sick of wasting my time and nitro on it.
Thanx to a friend overseas however , I will be able to try the p4gd1/g-70 combo next week with the solid container. Hoping it's as fun as this kit was.

Looking forward to that p4gd1 combo, let's see if you can get that mobo running ok, pci-e lock problems suck. Good luck m8.

het kingpin why don't you going to use the chilly1 container?

you want something else from the container?

    tnx

I do/did use my chilly container for all of this pentium m benching so far, and it's worked great, but I think there is more.

Here is what I am wondering Jort:
Will way more mass on container help with sustaining LOADED temps longer??
Will way more mass on the container help give me lower LOADED temps(closer to the temps of the ln2 itself)?????
Will way more mass allow me to bench more efficiently with ln2(use less)???

These are some questions I need answers to, and should have soon.

SOrry to hear about the problems. With the new mobo comin you should destroy all single card scores. Lookin forward to what you find on your mass questions.

    SOOO....
It takes forever for the base to cool AND when it does cool, a slight load will make it jump around...
With a 1/2" base, it's kinda a balance, as the cool sinks down, the heat is pulled up and it just kind of "chills".... Now, 1/4 is way too thin, you get MAD fluctuations in temp... 3/8 is better, but I think 7/16-1/2" is BEST

    C
if your base is at good thickness But your container has more mass, it should lead your temps the better way prolly.

the most important is to get the heat away as fast as possible.
this is best with the maximum working/toughing area of base with dice

maybe if chilly can try to make a double length block and try in with load?
maybe he did allready or someone?

    just my view on it

By total mass I believe he's not talking about base thickness but overall mass of copper. In other words a tube machined out of a piece of solid copper (no brazing all one piece)

k i see now, i think its not the biggest factor.

to tranfer the heat from the cpu to the total container will take longer.

the best way is to increase the effectivity between the heattranfer from cpu to dice.
and this is by increasing the inner design.

    i could be wrong

Do you mean regular bathtub silicone or something?

Good luck with the new board.

    NO! Not silicone caulk/adhesive/glue!!!!

He means regular old white paste thermal grease that comes for FREE every time you buy a new heatsink or something!! I've got packs of it from Vantec and from Arctic cooling...

exactly what I mean. The base is still at optimal thickness(1/2inch), but the sides are much thicker all the way to the top. 1/4 inch I believe. Total weight on the container is around 4-5lbs.

I'm not predicting anything here really. It could be that the extra mass makes little or no difference at all, I need to test it with ln2 in actual benchmarking situation to see for myself. We can talk about it forever. Something as simple as being able to hold temps longer during 1 benchmark, would be of benefit to me. Using ln2 by yourself on cpu and gpu is not an easy thing. Chilly's containers are nice, but they need to be kept full of a specific ammount of nitrogen at all times. Temps rise fast and cause lock-ups if your not on top of it.

As soon as the cold bug isn't that big of an issue with these chips, I'm all over it ....things are looking pretty promising as of late with the italians, sham, and opp hitting nice speeds at colder temps. Thanx for your words geforce. If anyone can appreciate an 01' score, it's you I wish I could keep going with this setup, but my last best p4c just doesn't want to play nice anymore.

I'm not bailing on pentium m just yet. I have a few p4gd1's coming from the uk to run with the 7800gtx and dothan. I think this will do nicely in single card mark 03,05, and especially am3.

Sorry to hear about the P4C800, but on the same token, the P4GD1 sounds very exciting.

My p4gd1 is arriving tomorrow K|ngp|n, hope you lit the way, cause later this month its going under DI thanks to a "made by Jort" container. Kudos to him for that.

BTW anyone can tell me how good could show up my Dothan 730 SL86G made in malaysia, pack date 18th feb 2005, batch Q506A283.

My boards haven't arrived yet..prolly monday....I wonder if they will be the only ones in america ...this board isn't anywhere here.

Kamerat has gotten really nice results from the p4gd1. Can't remember if he used a g70 though. You should talk to him. High fsb is possible on this board with the right tweaking....but for mark 03 and 05 and a single 7800, the cpu bottleneck isn't really there, so bus speed won't matter as much. 01 is a different story. I would rather have a x850 or x800 for that though.

Sorry, I live in Spain. I already pm'ed you when you were asking for someone to send you p4gd1 mobos. Hope all of them arrive ok at your doorstep and you can bench as soon as possible.
