Need Help : Tweaking 3dMark : Xtreme cooling inside

Ok guys. Me and my buddy had some fun and picked up a 533 Dothan 730 and i have a x800vivo to xt PE laying here.

We had some Dry Ice on the Dothan at ~3.0ghz (250fsb) paired w/ my good old' Mushin 3500 @ 3.3v 250 2.2.2.5.

P4C800e (flashed to P4P800) w/ CT-479 insulated well and my x800xt pe on a single stage i built that holds load on the card clocked at 645/585 at about -40. No mods on the board or video card (yet) but figured we could get higher than the scores below. Especially in 2001.

Windows XP Pro, ATI Tool had the 5.5 catalyst drivers and just had the basic stuff turned off in windows. Such as auto updates and all that.

I really need some help on how to tweak windows and tweak 3dmark. ie what drivers to use and etc..Been learning the HVAC side of this for a while, and need some help now on the tweaking side of it.

    3dMark 2001 = 31233
    3dMark 2003 = 15320
    3dMark 2005 = 7295

    Pentium M 730 1.6ghz 533fsb @ 3.0ghz on -70 C
    ATI X800 XT PE 654/585 stock volts @ -40 C

And btw, these dothans are amazing.

Well, get rid of all those services. Just keep the bare minimum to keep Windows alive and the internet working so you can upload your scores when you finish.

I heard afireinside tell another member this tweak: If you have the Pro version of 3DMark you can just run in Diagnostic Mode (Run > msconfig > Diagnostic startup in General tab). Running in diagnostic mode makes everything except the bare minimum Windows services turn off. It took Windows down to 10 processes in Task Manager for me.

Also change the priority of the benchmark program to Realtime through task manager (right click > Set Priority > Realtime). Also close explorer.exe to conserve RAM.

The Ricky/Pedro tweak: change your "Computer" driver to ACPI Multiprocessor PC for a nice boost in 01. It might raise your load temp a little and lower your max clock, but it will still give you a noticeable score gain.

I'm not sure about those drivers, but I'm pretty sure the new ones aren't very good in 2001SE. Someone else can probably give you a better recommendation than me.

Benchmarking is fun, but I need to get my water cooling done before I get any decent scores.

Kill the internet. You can save all your scores and upload them later.

Diagnostics mode does not require the pro version of 3dmark.

get win 2k if you can. Set up a dedicated tweaked win 2k DX 8.1 partition for 3d01 and another with DX 9 for 03/05/AM3. Not sure if win 2k or win XP is better for those, though.

Someone told me the best drivers, but I forgot em It was like 4.11 or something.

That dothan hold down for the DIce looks nice. Details?

When installing OS, hit f5, and choose the MPS UNI Processor. it gives a better boost than Ricky/pedro tweak. and your CPU will not get any hotter, and you will not hurt your oc at all I scored 200points more in 01 with 50mhz lower cpu speed with that tweak

Thanks to "silence" for the tweak

I'll get more pics of the mounting for the dothan up today. I like to say its one of the better jobs i've seen on insulating and mounting it w/ the J bolts.

I did not realize you could save scores for later with the free version. Cool.

Another thing you can do is disable all unneeded onboard things on your motherboard. Take it right down to floppy disk controller, SATA, unused IDE ports, USB, Serial, Parallel, although I'm not sure if you do that already.

I believe the consensus is that XP is the best for everything if you're running Intel.

does the "ricky"-tweak work on Intel?
I think Win XP without Service packs works best with Intel. cat-drivers should be 4.11
you will need a freshly intalled windows, with no extra programs installed or running. don't bother with killing services and so on. it doesn't do more than a few hundred points anyway. save that for the world record
set your cat-drivers to maximum performance instead of image quality.
run one test at a time and let your hardware cool down between the tests for higher clocks.
use ATI-tool to tighten memorytimings on the X800. check here: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...5&page=1&pp=25
but use TRP 6, which should give you a 20MHz increase in mem-overclock without loosing performance. also 585MHz on the memory sound very low.
all I could think of for now.
    Good luck!

Ya cool. You talking about your SLI setup?

I did turn off the basic stuff in windows like that. I will continue to lean windows out next time i give it all a go.

I tried to tweak the video card cooler out some more, and messed the charge up. I had it at -42 loaded at one point, but now its dips around to -38...not that 4 degree's will prob make that big of a deal though.

I'll post some pics of the video card cooler up in the phase section. I'm using a micro chilly1 spiral block on it.

Ya, i will try to get the mem higher, i really haven't pushed it that much. I did however set the memory timings to the thread you showed, but will drop the setting you mentioned down to 6 and see if i can get more out of it. This is all on a stock non modded x800vivo to xt pe, so maybe i will pencil on the card a little bit or finally send it off to someone to get modded.

    XP SP2 DX9.0, MPS Uniprocessor, Cat 4.12...

MPS/ACPI tweaks only work on procs without HyperThreading. Win2k is slower for Intel, and 4.12 is better than 4.11.

If you can compare your tests to this, 31k is definitely way,, way too low for that kind of system.

Also use i865/875 tweaker to set the DRAM Latency Parameter to 11 if you can.

Your main problem is that you're losing PAT with the P4P BIOS...
