No, Dual is especially created for work with 2 threads, it's nifty in photoshop etc.. but in game's you dont recognize the difference of single or dual core, you'd then be better of with a fx-55/57. The price's may go down a little but i dont exspect much![]()

AMD Opteron 144 1.8GHz @ 3.0GHz
As much as I wish so, sadly I don't think this will happen though.
Hmm..I guess I'll wait until they release X2. I don't want to be disappointed after buying A64 then find out few days later that their prices are going down.
I also saw several reviews and looks like X2 actually performed better than fx-55 on some games and applications.
lol... the inquirer... They sounded pretty sketchy to me, even for them.Originally Posted by Pejsen

Look guys i know that theinQ haven't been the most reliable source ever, however since i just came across that news while reading this topic i thought it would be stupid not to help.
But what the heck.. next time i won't![]()
The x2 has already been "officially" released, just not into the retail channels yet. They're already available to major oems and will soon be at the distribution hubs....
Yeah i'm patiently waiting for mineOriginally Posted by s7e9h3n

They will drop chip prices to attract positive press their way to increase launch attention.
It is likely the prices will drop, I mean, AMD has done that several times, no?

That's why I'm going to hold any plan on getting new CPU until they release it to retailer. If there's no change in price .. that's fine .. but if they do go down .. that will be great![]()
doubt they'll lower prices, look at venice, winny, winny got dropped by a few dollars

i reckon prices will lower. Basic economics dudes.
i doubt it ...but we will have to wait and see. price drops will be minimal tho, so why wait![]()

I think the prices will be very similiar to what happened to the winnies when the venice came out... They are in a lot of ways going after a different market than what AMD is already going after, if anything, I'd think that they would affect 3500+, 3800+ and 4000+ prices

I have to agree with you on that one. I know the price won't affect the FX series, but it might affecting regular A64. I think it will all depend on how AMD will categorize X2 and how good X2 will sell.Originally Posted by justwOo
exactly, i completely agree, the X2 is a whole nother class of processors currently, epsically since there isnt many threaded applications outside of servers, photo editing/rendering, modeling programs, and a few other thingsOriginally Posted by justwOo
i dont think it will affect prices much, but there should be a small drop
Yes but only if the X2s result in lower demand for single core A64s.Originally Posted by mr sti

Use in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of n00bs. Overclock within 24 hours of opening.
Do not read instructions before proceeding, do not use only as directed. May cause frustration, late nights and empty wallets.
If symptoms persist please consult your hardware professional.

I don't know about that as my 3700+ SD is already getting replaced. I'm sure others are going on ebay.Originally Posted by 13oost
SPECULATION:
I think they might do something like have a dual core and a single core, say, 4200+ but make them the same price, just different speeds. The duallie 4200+ might be 2GHz with 1MB of cache, and the single 4200+ would be 2.6GHz with 1MB of cache.
Am I making sense? The people who would want more performance now would opt for the single core stuff, while people who want duallies wouldn't have to pay more for the same speed rating.

Unless they release something faster and just cut prices on the 4200/4400/4600/4800 prices. Although that would probably take a die shrink. They could just more heavily promote the 2x512KB cache chips. Those should be a lot cheaper to produce.Originally Posted by s7e9h3n

Heehee, I edited my post cuz I realized that the speeds he stated were correct. Mcnbns is right on target with his statement.......Originally Posted by ewitte
