    lapped xp120 and CPU

so got bored so i lapped my cpu and xp120. 3-4 drop at idle and 3-4 under load

might try pusing it higher now!

    cpu

    xp120

took the advice of some on here and went to walmart and got some mothers mag and chrome polish and worked good. could have gotten it a little shiner if i had some finer grain sandpaper to work with.

just did a run last night, will see if i can do better now, temps are a little high becuase of high ambient temps...

hey, close all that stuff on your desktop so we can check out your girlfriend !!!!

I haven't lapped the IHS on anything in a while, usually just yank the IHS off. I just got the TT Big Typhoon today and might give it a lapping though, its a little on the unfinished side if you ask me.

u shouldnt have used chrome polish or any polish or finisher for that matter, they will inhibit the transfer of heat making your lapping efforts almost useless.

simple, after done shining it up just give it a good scrub a few times with some cotton balls and rubbing alcohol will take all the polish off...

i suggest u relap it a bit since its gonna be impossible to get all of it out on a microscopic level(uve filled in the microscopic gaps with this polish just like a thermalpaste is supposed to but its gonna be real hard to get it out, just like how u prep a heatsink with as5, its near impossible to get the grey out of the base without relapping)

daddy_fizz, how about some results !

Just as a note, I've found that Ceramique works better than AS5 on finely lapped surfaces.

well haven't done too much with it. i was able to drop the voltage in the bios and still maintain the same overclock. voltage reads about 1.46 or so in windows @2800mhz. I might be able to squeeze a little more out of it but i have a feeling that i am near the top of my chips limits without going to water cooling or something. i'll try putting 1.6 through it and see if i can get 2900 stable kind of wierd how you got to pump so much to get that last little bit....
