DFI LP NF4 only works with 5v jumper...

so as i read more and more about the 5v jumper problems on the lanparty nf4 board i decided to switch it back to the 3.3v jumper. was working fine, i then took out my cpu and lapped it and put it back in. with the jumper on the 3.3v jumper it will start to boot and i get 3 red leds at the bottom and then one continous beep before a reset. i have OCZ VX pc4000 in the yellow slots. i can't put it in the orange becuase i have an XP120... sometimes i can take out one stick or put it in the orange slots and it will boot with the 3.3v jumper...

    any suggestions or ideas?

i know this might be related to all the different threads i've been reading but i couldn't find an exact answer the the multi-multi-paged theads in this section...

    thanks for the help!

man, the memory will fit in the orange with the xp120, you just gotta work with it for a second to get it in.

If you flipped the xp-120 around it will take a few days for the TIM to set. You should try leaving it with the pipes next to the videocard.
The little air system that could.

RAM at stock? Me VX dont like 3,2v. Need 5v rail (or booster) to do over 240.

I know what you mean with the 5v only thing, my redline wont run on 3.3v rail, even though it only needs 3.2v to do amazing timmings, what I have learnt however is that the higher i set the voltage on the 5v jumper the hotter the mosfet gets, if I run @ 3.2V on 5v jumper the mosfet is touch and holdable, If i crank up the volts to 3.3v+ it becomes almost impossible to even touch. Also at least in my case the yellow slots are a no go, very very unstable wont even get into windows regardless of volts or jumper, so i use orange ones which is all fine with me as the timings can get extremely tight.

Should be other way round. I wouldnt run @3,2v from the 5v rail.

yes i agree with what loc.o said. from what i have read using the 5v rail the closer you are to 4v in the bois the less stress the mosfets have to take in stepping down the voltage. i'm not worried about the cpu temps, i know that they will take a little bit to settle down

the wierdest thing is that when i first switched it to the 3.3v jumper and it was working fine i could get into windows and even ran prime and memtest for a little bit with 3.2 set in bios (3.15 or so in windows) at ram @ 254...then when i popped the cpu back in, no go...

hey papa (I just kill me )

I am pretty sure you tried this but CMOS clearing the "DFI way" which is battery out for at least an hour should get you back up.

When switching back to the 3.3V jumper I had issues in the past, resolved with CMOS clearing.

so removed my battery and booted it back up with it in the 3.3v position. got my ram at 254 with 3.22 on the ram (3.3 rail at abouy 3.33) passed about 20 runs of memtest+ test 5 and an hour of prime95 large ffts so far! pretty good for a lower voltage...
