i do believe in the article they said the switched the slave x850xt for an xtpe. so xtpe + xt, unless im completely mistaken... cus i thought the first was 2 x850xt, and the second was the xt + xtpeOriginally Posted by 1_2_know

X850XT and 6800U were pretty fairly equal, ATI just a little better.... So why would you see 12k stock vs like 7k stock? Those are not the new Cards, they are still X800.... Only CF editions,,, AMR capable...Originally Posted by 1_2_know

I think the reason the two cards are not using a connection between them is the pci card below the two vid cards. I read somewhere that you will be able to use Crossfire a multitude of ways and one of them being a pci card. There will be Mobos that will have chips that will control Crossfire via bios settings, but they willl only be on high end boards due to the price of making something like that available in the bios. (4 or 5 chips @ 1$ a pop) I am thinking that the pci card is just a variation of that. Someone I am sure knows more than I, but I think I might be close??..
The card you are referring to on the pics has nothing to do with crossfire. That is a post-code card.Originally Posted by Lizard

Hmmmm....seems two slaves do particularly well together without the dongle. It also seems that a X800 CF (400/980, mind you) and an X850 flashed to X800 (520/1120) seemed to get 10k...two X850XTpes probably will get 11.5k, I imagine. Then add 5.6s and other advances and we'll see 12k soon, I'm sure.Originally Posted by Mr. Tinker

cleared up the confusion I had
Identical normal cards = slave/slave, not as fast, and have to be identical.
normal card+ Xfire card = master/slave and get a performance boot (optimal) and dont have to have IDENTICAL cards... but which cards are supported, seems to be x800's only so far-- I sure hope they support x700's too

twin slave x800xl's..... wonder if a flash might be all it takes to go from slave to xfire too maybe?
All along the watchtower the watchmen watch the eternal return.
the ultra D has been around for a few months now, it's not like they just released it last week, then ATI came out with this....Originally Posted by cantankerous

2x slave you can use regs.... but for true xfire, you need a special connector on the card.Originally Posted by STEvil

Yea I suppose you're right however a 'few months' is still not that long. I waited a bit longer than others to get my Ultra-D due to all the problems and sudden deaths I was reading about it when it first came out. When I did get my first one it did infact die however the RMA replacement is working fine right now and has been for about 2 months or so.Originally Posted by Kunaak

Hmmm ... a couple months to transistion my current rig to a dedicated water cooled gaming rig and prepare for this new mobo as a pure bencher? Doubtful. Is it possible DFI will pull yet another rabbit out of their hats on a completely new chipset. Seems like long odds. Hell I'm in for one because it give me an excuse to pick up a revision E cpu. I'm guessing the DFI/ATI mobo will end up as the gaming rig and my current mobo will be spending quality time with a new CPU while awaiting the arrival of the new Nvidia GPU late in the year.
Sourcing parts for a mildly over clocked abacus.
k so we need two members who are gonna be going Crossfire, to perhaps visit each other or something of the sort, and try to run two slave cards with the crossfire setup. There have been rumours that two slave cards work together in crossfire, even if they have less performance, its still an intriguing prospect.
I sure am interested see that. Let "Operation 2Slave" Begin

News Image News Image
DFI has been showing two slave cards running in a dual configuration at Computex as seen above, and they have in fact been showing 3DMark 2005 scores that increase by nearly 80% when they turn on "CrossFire" in the driver. Well to make a long story short, the two slave cards are sharing the workload and nearly doubling the 3D Mark2005 score, but you are only seeing every other frame supplied by one of the cards. So keep in mind that rendering double the frames is pretty "easy," but putting them back together again is not just going to happen by accident.
Anyway, chalk the confusion up to pre-release hardware and drivers. Kudos to DFI for finding something cool to share, but don't ever think you are going to reap the rewards of CrossFire rendering without a CrossFire hardware compositing engine to put all the frame or tiles back together again.
And just for the record, DOOM 3 showed absolutely no benefit from the configuration as you might guess.
will existing pci-e x800xt work? or just the x850?
