Do the heatspreader rise the temp

Do the memory heatspreader prevent the heat from coming out or are the good from a cooling prespective. IĀ“ve heard that the hs makes the memory hotter and thatĀ“s why i wonder, because on the g-skill memories thereĀ“re no hs but on my Corsair XL thereĀ“s.

in my oppinion these hs are useless. they block the heat.
g.skill doesn't use the hs on their ddr1 memory, cuz they want to show that they use kickass chips^^

Hot chips do benefit form heat sinks. Obviously the chipset, etc does. I don't think anyone has shown conclusively that it either helps or hurts ram. Most likley the ram doesn't get hot enough to make any difference in the highest stable clock although individual ram sinks instead of covers might actually help, but would be rather expensive even in mass production. Bottom line, either way, but a fan over the ram does help, again in either case.

Some rams overclock a bit more when removing their heatspreaders.

    BH-5 on Heatspreader = 265mhz
    BH-5 withouth them = 275mhz
