    far cry 64biit version released!

    CRYTEK AND AMD said that the 64-bit version of Far Cry, optimised for its CPUs, is now available.

    According to AMD, this version was built on AMD64 machines and features enhancements for this processor family.

    What does the 64-bit version bring you? According to AMD there are larger and more detailed areas to explore, 64-bit maps, longer view distances, and a 64-bit "barrel storage area".

    Patches to enable the 64-bit version of Far Cry are available on AMD's site, and can be downloaded there for owners of the 32-bit version who also have Windows XP Professional X64. ยต

    amdzone tested it here:

    Hmmmm, i want it, just for the added benefits it seems to give. The Image Quality, is way better with the new version. Those screens on Anandtech show the difference.

    I assume you have to be running XP64 in order to enjoy the benefits?

    ====EDIT====

    Nope, you need 64 bit OS which sucks, but you can understand why.

    The difference on some of those levels is really impressive.

    AMD's goals are quite admirable, but the fact of the matter is that none of the visual improvements enabled by the Far Cry patches had anything to do with AMD64 or EM64T. They are artificially limited to run on those platforms alone, but could work just as well on a 32-bit platform.
    offcourse it looks better but i'm not sure about any 64-bit improvements

    Everything is executed in 64bit, thats why you need XP64 to run it.

    Appears to be really buggy at the moment, the birds appartently go to land on the beach and just fall through the floor, lighting and shading is pretty whacky, nothing a patch wont fix though.
