very nice results. exciting news for the 754 platform. keep up the good work.
muhaha i want 1

just an update on temps.. it runs noticably warmer than my clawhammer (at 2.3ghz, 1.55v), loading at 45c with normal room temps (25) and 2.8ghz, 1.5v
dropping it to 2.7 and 1.45 brings temps down to 41c. seems like the extra voltage is a killer

3.1 GHz is only 22% faster than what I've had for 9 months on Socket 754 (Claw CG at 2.43 GHz). I see Newark as an interesting upgrade option for people with NCs or Semprons, but is it that big of a deal for those who already have decent Claws? I mean, the Newark 3700+ is well over $350. Even with an amazing core, those of us with marginable Socket 754 boards (Epox 8KDA3J here) aren't going to be able to push Newark with 1GB of RAM installed.

i'm probably gonna upset a lot of people by saying this, but my k8n neo is better than my lanparty ut-nf3 by a long shot.
i can use dividers, memtest at 300mhz htt, the core voltage is more stable, and i'm 12mhz higher on the core with ambient temps ~3c higher and a brand new mount that hasn't settled in the least.
just two problems. i have to boot at 2.5-3-2-10, as with trcd of 2, voltage is 2.7v. and there's no option for 1T/2T in the bios, so i just change things when i get into windows
here's where i'm at so far, seems like it's gonna hold for the duration. if not, at least 3 hours.
(it's been ~10 min since i took that shot, still priming)
i'll be busy tonight, so i don't know how much of a chance i'll get to do some serious oc'ing, but i'll definitly give 1.5v+ a shot and see where it takes me

Were you using the 4/15 BIOS on the DFI?
yup. it never did like dividers though, even with my clawhammer. i guess that doesn't really matter with a 12x multi, and probably beats dealing with 2T at every boot.
i've definitly hit the voltage limit of the k8n neo though, it appears that i can't actually change VID (stuck at 1.4v), and i can only do +10%, which undervolts a lot for ~1.5v actual. trying to see if i can wrench 2.8ghz out of it with that and normal room temps, but i don't think it's gonna happen

Hmmm. Let's see. On my sister-in-law's DFI nF3 board, I was able to run my VX at 271MHz error-free and stable. If I can do the same with the board I order...12x271MHz=3252MHz. I'd be a happy camper.
Know of any VMODs for the MSI board? That VCORE leaves a lot to be desired. What if...
Maybe its a long shot but will the newark boot with BIOS 1.4 on the K8N?
That BIOS will let you go up to 1.8v!

don't know of any off-hand, but if i could find something, a mod wouldn't be terribly difficult, and would definitly go a long way. a modded bios with around 3x the ram options would be nice too.. i think i've been spoiled by this dfi.Originally Posted by conrad.maranan
3.25ghz would be quite hot though. with good cooling, you just might be able to pull it off stable. my core seems to be VERY sensitive to temperatures.

Is there a list anywhere of what mobos are compatible with Newark? Do all of them that work with the Clawhammer A64/M work with it?
That's for the DFI nF4 939 boards, saaya.Originally Posted by saaya
Ozzi, maybe it's your memory and not the CPU that's puking on the divider with the DFI. I've seen a few complaints here and there... that Crucial Ballistix and DFI NF3 don't like to play well together.
Just a thought...
i have a strong suspicion that it is my ballistix not liking the dfi board. i can use a divider just fine on the neo. i'll be able to try my hand with some bh-5 in a week and a half or so.
not sure, but so far the k8n neo and dfi nf3 are verified to workOriginally Posted by totensiebush

Vandi also verified that Turion64 is compatible with the ASUS K8V-SE, so I'd assume Newark would work on any ASUS board with a revision E compatible BIOS.

yeah, i was honestly surprised that it worked in the asus, but it's a nice surprise, so i'm not gonan complain
curiously, going from 1.45v to 1.475v gives me about 50mhz. i think vandi's comment about this thing rocking on water is dead on, as if i can get temps down around 5c (42c load right now) i can get another 25-40mhz out of the core..

I'd be happy with 2.8GHzOriginally Posted by ozzimark
I can't go 939 because I'd have to buy a PCI-E card along with the chip and mobo, plus water cooling. But I definitely want to get into water now.
Ok guys, I need your help.
Should I keep this or return it? I suppose the question I should ask is:
If you bought this from Newegg, would you keep it or would you expect a refund?
BTW that is not dust on the core.
Another shot.
I put this here because I know there are some real experienced users here and it’s a 3700+
In my experience the core should be flawless. From this point in time I am returning it unless AMD tells me that it is ok.

that's the second one like that you've gotten. i'd personally expect a flawless core.. i wonder what it is that's causing that.

I'd send it back and yell at newegg for sending a messed up core.
