Venice 3800+ and DFI SLI-DR PROBLEM!

    I need some help...

Got myself a Venice 3800+ today!

Okay, running with the latest bios (3/10) and booting up my system (was installed by exactly same config, only with 3500+ winchester).

All settings in bios @ default.

Wecome screen shows up --> BSOD.

Flashed the beta 3/10 bios, same error. [PFN_LIST_CORRUPT]
Google answered to me that my memory or my drivers were probably the problem. Memtest @ 12*200 2-2-2-5 (Gskill TCCD) shows no errors.

Booted up the PC with my "old" (3500+ Winnie) CPU... No problems at all. Removed the AMD driver. Booted... No difference.

So, I got myself a clean HDD and attempted to install WinXP Pro + SP2.
.... BDSOD .... PFN_LIST_CORRUPT and I've seen DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL or someting like that once.

At this point I'm out of ammo and set the CPU multiplier to 8 (1600MHz)
And now I am typing this topic with my crappy frustrated english. Any higer won't boot into Windows.

I need some serious help overhere!

fyi - 3/10 is not the latest bios for DFI SLI-DR...there is a 4/14 bios floating aroud here that OPB posted which adds support for Venice CPU's...i recommend giving that a shot.

True... Couldn't decide yet wich one to test...
Besides... There are many people running Venice's @ 3/10 bios... But I'm about to flash the OPB bios.

0414 BIOSs were made to add support for venice and diego, flash 0414-3 in and it should work for you.

I heard there were issues with the DFI and vencie @ 1t, did you try a command rate of 2t?

Not tried yet. 414-1 bios doesn't make any sense...

    [edit] 2T works... but I hate running 2T [/edit]

Is this "solveable" by a BIOS update?!

Sorry missed your post! Shame on me!
But that was what I thought would be my next step now. To see if I can run 1T with one stick. I'll let you know...

    [edit] w00t, 7331 and so on... 414-3 boots without errors @ 12*200 2-2-2-5 1T [/edit]

Hmmz... Priming at the moment @ 2.7GHz...
    Needs 1.54V though... (default + 10%)

Probably some stablility issues need to be fixed with official new bios?
(let me live in my dream ok :P) But I'm running on water... Will pump up the voltage en see if I can hit 2.8GHz prime stable

    3800+@2.7Ghz with 1.54 and WC?
I though that 3200+ could do this with vcore stock and air cooler...

    Hehehe,
Looks like the review samples were a bit better than the retail chips. My 3800+ did 2.8 @ 1.4 vcore on stock hsf spi16m stable.....

    Lets not jump to conclusions.

We need a helluva lot more results before we can settle on any Venice-judgements...

No need to hype chips prematurely - no need to send them to they grave too early neither.

So where in my post did "hype chips prematurely" and I wouldn't say 2.7G@1.54 constitutes a "dead" cpu.

well I see running T2 did the trick but it kills performance. I hope they resolve this bug! 2.7GHz isnt so great for a 3800+ Venice but it could just be it doesnt like your mobo. You could ebay that Venice and get a better one

I would not be surprised that 3000+ and 3200+ Venice will be clocking in the same range than those expensive chips.
Besides, I think it's much wiser to get 3700+ Diego than 3800+ Venice - $50 cheaper, 1MB cache and probably same clocks in result.
    Well, we'll see soon

I think there has been a reason for not seeing too many 3500+ and 3800+ Winnies here on XS or anywhere else. Everybody hates paying 2x the money for same performance. Of course, not all 3000+ or 3200+ will be crazy OCers... I would shoot myself If bought a nearly $400 chip and got 2.8GHz on air or 3.0-3.1GHz on phase-change. Same performance might be possible with half the cash...

But We need to see some 3000/3200 chips first...

    EDIT: I'm exagerrating, I wouldn't shoot myself
