My Geil Value also has Winbond UTT chips ... can you post some pics of the chips (I don't have a digital camera to make the photos myself).

Thanks for the shop listing, Goaty-boy.

Nice to know another good online store in Aus!

On that note, is there a comprehensive list anywhere of various countries and their GOOD stores for people like us, looking to buy the higher end goods?

Thought of tha when I bought them. But from what I've seen all Geil Value (if not all Geil ram) aren't "accurate" about the Serial Number and week/year.

If you could find them at a local store and look at the modules you can identify if they have Winbond chips or not.

I have attached some pics of the sides of Winbond ICs. You can notice that all of them have 2 silver colored lines.

yea.. that's one way of identifying them

but doesn't really say whether it's winbond or not...

any other IC have only 2 silver metal sticking out?

No recent ICs that I could find. Only some old PC2100 Hynix H seem to have the same two lines, but they are thiner and shorter.

However according the Geil they use only Elpida or Hynix chips for their Value line. Elpida chips look different, while Hynix D5 & D43 have 4 dots on their sides.

In the U.S. I would bet that the
GEIL 1GB PC3200 DUAL C2 listed at Outpost may be more of the UTT.

From how the modules look they are Geil Ultra Platinum PC3200. Those modules should have Winbond CH-5 or Mosel Vitelic 5ns, but than again .. who knows

yes these ICs have the 2 soldr balls.
hynix chips have 4 smaller ones.

I can't get 250 at ANY voltage. could this be my mem controller?
