DFI NForce4 SLI-DR Kicked the Bucket

hey, there are many threads in this section about dead or buggy dfi nf4 boards, so we thougt it might be best to merge all those threads to get all the informations in one thread instead of having several threads discussing the problems. please dont post a new thread if you have a problem with a dfi nf4 board but post in this thread, thx

    -saaya

Hey guys - i think my DFI NF4 SLI-DR finally kicked the bucket...it was giving me memory problems a few days ago and today i turned it off, went to turn it back on and it posts, says "CMOS Checksum Error Press F1 to continue or DEL to enter setup" No amtter what key i press, it moves on to detect RAID array and just hangs there, can't even get into the bios. I emailed DFI Tech support to see if i can get an RMA number..in the mean time, does anyone have any suggestions to perhaps get this running? Thanks!

    PS
I think it was an R.A00, which if i recall had an issue with memory..so maybe it just went bad later rather than sooner like the others?

It's not dead yet... Clear CMOS, turn off PSU, remove memory sticks... Wait a bit... Put one stick in and fire it up again

EDIT: VERY likely it's your VX... Same happened to me on Neo2 when I got my first kit of 3200 VX. It's is not the board...

BUT - i've tried clearing CMOS, i've tried removing the battery and unplugging, i've tried removing ram and placing one stick in and booting..all to no avail..and its not only with VX anymore, its TCCD too...no matter what memory i stick in this thing it will NOT boot past the searching for RAID part. very strange...

Which slot did you use for the RAM?

The orange one closest to the CPU socket worked for me.

I've just had a similiar problem. I needed to clear CMOS and power down for a few minutes. Seemed fine after I booted up the next time. I don't think there's much more you can do to get it running. If none of the above helps you out, then I guess the best solution is RMA. It's a shame but, you've done all you can do to get it to work.

Another DFI Ultra seemingly bites the dust

Well about to play a game and the comp freezes on the menu screen, not even 3d. Well, no safe mode jumper, clearing the cmos, nor taking out the battery will bring it back. 3 LEDs stay lit. I checked the ram in another machine and it works fine.

Damn board was a replacement for some stuff I killed on my own. I did nothing to this thing except run a crappy CBBID at 2.3GHz. I gamed all night on these settings the night before, so I knew when the thing wouldn't even boot that my board had just decided to go dead like the some others.

bad luck dude, did you use the 4v jumper? also what PSU was it? OCZ?

edit: just seen the other thread, i'm starting to think theres an issue with the OCZ psu's, the majority of the dead mobos seem to be using an OCZ

IT IS UR CPU mine did the same thing at stock speeds even i have heard of this board doing it NOTHING but CBBID cpu...I think that it is a fault with them NOT the board...as mine was 26 deg c when it died only running windows media player...so it is not the board get a diff cpu to try or test your cpu in another board to confirm!

So then it seems that there could be two problems...CBBID cpu's AND OCZ psu's...i guess we will have to start a poll to see who was running what at the time...

So, you mean the CPU is dead...not the board? Or the "CBBID" cpu's are killing the DFI Ultra boards?

I just got a new DFI-Ultra D and "CBBID" chip(all retail) yesterday.. you guys are scaring me

Guys, the CBBID chips arent killing the mobos. I have a DFI Ultra-D and to be honest its one of the flakiest motherboards I've ever used. Yesterday it was doing 294 x 9 @ 1.536 prime, super pi and 3dmark 2003/5 stable. Today I fire it up and it had to be backed off to 292 x 9 at the same volts otherwise 3dmark would freeze and 32m SuperPI would fail. Honestly I dont think the nforce4 DFI boards are very good quality, also check the forums lots of problems, spontaneous deaths (difficult installations, like I had - wouldnt pass IRQ post window with bank interleave enabled with stock BIOS and kept losing the SATA drives from post).

Why are they spontaneously dying? My money would be on the DFI ultra product itself not the CPUs or the PSUs - I've had this OCZ PSU and about 7 CBBID CPUs on 2 different Neo2 Platinums and 2 Epox 9NDA3J motherboards without a problem. The Epox boards are crap too, I had 2 of them and on each the USB ports died after about a month (and that wasn't even with a CBBID or the OCZ PSU). Should this board die I'll be picking up the MSI Neo4.
