Asus 9800XT Vcore / Vmem Mod... Not the same?

Well i have the parts i need but i am spooked about trying these mods on my Asus 9800... The mod is so simple yet i have seen someone who supposedly had it installed perfectly (i really don’t see how someone could mess up these mods anyways) Said his card works for 30 seconds then crapped out never to come back.

Everything was perfect, pot at 10kohm, switch it on.... vgpu was giving 1,85.... looked to the monitor.... after like 5 secs blank screen ....

    Really dont know what happened
I also know that the VCore check point is different on the Asus model of the 9800

so I suspect the board layout may be just different enough for the mod to need to be adjusted.

On another note, I have seen a few different versions of the same Vcore mod. And I am having a difficult time choosing which one to go with. If anyone has info on a mod that they know will work with my asus please let me know. Thanks in advance

So I assume you seen this thread...
    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...&pagenumber=11

The only thing I would have changed If I had done this again would be to use a 10K Ohm 25 turn pot on the VCore mod, a 5K Ohm 25 turn pot on the mem mod, and I would have used smaller gauge strand wire. I wouldn't wire any other pots in series like I did... as the 25 turn pots give you great accuracy in your adjustments.

Here is a diagram of the Vcore mod I would suggest. (Once again... I Now wouldn't use the other pot in series just get a 25 turn 10K pot)

Here is a diagram of the mem mod that I now know to work.

But like I said... I would use a 5K Ohm 25 turn pot on the mem mod and not wire another pot in series.

Hell... I'll even give you a parts list!!!
    Great sorce of parts!!!!!! -->http://sales.digikey.com/scripts/sal...;source=search

    Digi-Key part numbers
    Wire: A3047R-100-ND
    Data Sheet
    ----------------------------------------
    10K Ohm 25 turn Pot: 3296X-103-ND
    5K Ohm 25 turn Pot: 3296X-502-ND
    Data Sheet for both

And if you don't like this style of pots (3296X-103-ND X=style) You can get the part number for a different style here.
    http://dkc3.digikey.com/PDF/T051/1057.pdf
Stick with the 3296 series (Upper right hand corner of the above linked catalog page)... but you can get different styles that the trimmer and the legs are in different positions.
    ----------------------------------------
    That should about do ya!

Im assuming that IS an asus board in the above pix?

Hmm R1597 to the pot, then grounded... That all you need for the asus vcore mod? lol

:edit: as i get read to go install all i have left are 2 10k's and 2 20ks... Thats beat

That's it! Unless you want to do it the hard way (It’s the same deal on the x800pro/XT/XT PE) I try and find ways to avoid soldering onto IC chips and resistors if I can.

Yes... them pics are from my ASUS 9800XT
Here are a lot more. Also a brief narrative to go along with the pics... Might help

Hrmm, i would say a 10K is fine for vmem as well because they are readily avaliable. I think the guy who had it all set up right porobably damaged something w/ the heat from the soldering iron.

a 10K will be fine... it will just be a little harder to tweak your voltage...

I wound up using a 20k B/C even the 10k was to low for my card... Check out the results here: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...ad.php?t=57455
