I would like to put a third opposite the vertical one and find a way screw it to the board for better contact. That would be 328cfm+/- and loud.

I also thought of two silent towers, and I like the look of the hyper6 but bet its heavy.
The second xp120 only got me 9C lower I dont know what a third would give. Also thought of the vertical xp120 and the silent tower / nitrogen combo as one unit, that would be heavy.
$60 for the third and 270fsb would not make a $400-$500 water system for another 7fsb(277fsb is the boards max) very practical.

9C is _VERY_ nice as XP120 is already xtremely efficient. Is it possible to put one more on the other side (i.e. is there room?)

    Xtreme all the way!

In answer to fan direction the one on the back of the case is exhaust and the other is blowing down on the fins.I tried the bottom one upside down and there was no change in temps but the fets and caps on the board got about 15C hotter. The Vcore droop was the same.
Also the base will not mount 180degrees without grinding or I would have tried both fans blowing on the fins and a 3rd 120 on exhaust.Thermalright claims only a 1degree difference between suck and blow but I might get better flow with one side open on the fan .I dont want to cut a 120mm hole in the back of this case yet.

Yes ther is still room for a third, also mabye an xp-90 at 90degrees above the northbridge once I change the way it mounts.

WTF,I might as well go as far as I can without water.

And I hit the board with a screwdriver removing the hsf and half removed a resistor. Had to solder it back on so there is no warranty for this board anymore so its droop mode time.

What? A XP-90 onto the two 120s? Thats crazy, it'd be awesome though.

how about 4 (vertical) XP-90c's in a "square" with an XP-120 mounted on top of them in the center? lol

Could mount a fan on each blowing towards the center.. hmmmmmmm.....

Well, it would be 3 xp120s, 1 front, 1 back, 1 top and the xp-90 on the northbridge side in the middle. that might get a little heavy.

Well I,m at 270fsb(4.32Ghz)@ 1.725Vcore and it ran dual prime95 and atitool find max memory for three hours error free but as you can see by the picture it started to throttle about 12% at about 15 minutes. It doesnt get that hot gaming so I will try an hour or two of ut2004 later.Cpu-z always reports the wrong voltage.

    Time for an update.

yesterday I used a smaller than normal drop of AS5 and my temps at 4.24Ghz at 1.6Vcore are now 53C at full load, dual prime95 and atitool running with fans on low!!

I then attempted 4.32Ghz again and got a half an hour at 1.7Vcore with no throttle but one prime failed shortly after.

    http://client.webshots.com/photo/312...12256144CHylAK

Today with some changes in the bios I ran 4.32Ghz at 1.675Vcore at 59c for an hour with dual prime and atitool and no errors and no throttling.

I decided to try 270fsb(4400mhz) at 1.72Vcore and it ran but with about 20% throttling. I dont know yet if it will game at that speed witout throttling.

I hope the links work.Clik on normal size to see clear picture.

In the chilly Scandinavia all you would need on that thing is a 500mm fanduct sucking in 2C air from outside attached to the side...

    Man that is freaking awesome.
I wonder how it'd perform though, if you could actually attatch all 10 heatpipes to the same base?

    1) fordf250, What are your amient / room temperatures?
    2) Wouldn´t fitting a 3rd XP-90 or xp-120 just make the base to thick? That way trapping some of the heat in that huge block of copper?

    3) Wich was it, does AL dispatch heat faster but Copper... or what?

    **edit**
    3) AL does dispatch heat faster than copper...but copper absorbs heat faster from the source.

    skuliaxe,

Yes I thought the same thing and since I like the results I got with 2 I left it at that.I think the most heat is pulled from the center and as you get closer to the outside it makes less of a difference and mabye why water blocks are so small and the water is sprayed right down the middle.

My room temps are around 22-24C.If I open the window on a cool day 16-18C the cpu temp only goes down 1-2C even when its to cold for me to sit beside it.

I dont know about al vs copper but the base is cast copper and very thin where the pipes join the base.

I have an infrared lazer thermometer that I use to check temps of thing that dont have sensors.
I can see the base of the heatsink when the side door is of so here are the temps at the side of the base.
When the cpu is at idle 28C in hardware monitor the base is 30C.
When the cpu is under load at 56C the base is 34-35C at the edge.
Under load the fins are between 30-40C.I dont think ther is much of a way to improve on that. Also the fans on full and the fans on low dont make that much difference but I think the one blowing on the fets helps at higher speeds.

I second that. I bet there are some ppl on here who don't have the mad soldering skills needed to pull that off, but would be willing to pay up for what must be considered one of the most Xtreme air mods available for a CPU.

Once again, that is really, really nice. Excellent work.

From some of the pictures that have been on the net lately i think you will be able to get heatsinks with lots of heatpipes from computer stores soon.

If most of the heat is transfered right at the center of the cpu the Microchill might work better than I thought.

Not to bad...I made a custom base for my SI-97...if I ever feel the urge to do something like this I would just make a new Cu base for them not solder them...but hey man nice job...maybe once I get my chiller done and my CPU orderd so I have some cach again I will try this by ordering another SI-97...then i will test it and sell it on the forums...cool...

Hell send me 2 and I will make a custom Cu base for them...all it will cost you is the cost of the materials to do it...BTW send at least a 12 gram tube of AS5 with the HS as that is what i use instead of solder it seems to work better as it takes a HUGE amount of heat to solder these heatsinks...just drop me a PM if you want something like this done...

    Dragon

P.S I might not be able to do for a few days because I might be grounded from my grades.. :/ but then again maybe not... just drop me a PM...i will be more then happy to do it for you guys like i said just material costs...

for clarification...the AS5 is used as the tranfer material between the base and heat pipes...and the top is bolted together...no solder and the same/beter temps then solder to boot...

I think it depends on the amount of tin in the solder as to how much heat it transfers.I also considered a custom base but by keeping the original base lets me mount to any intel clip mount or with the thermalright adapter to any AMD board with no bolts.

Yes but with the bolts and a back plate you can get better pressure on the core with bolts...but with the custom base you could better arrange the heat pipies on ONE base instead of having them stacked so it will have MUCH better thermal tranfer to the heat pipes...and in turn to the sinks...I think that the the copper HS would BE GREAT FOR THIS...as the copper fins would disspaite the heat better...but hey Ford GREAT idea...also can your pressi have the IHS tacken off if so do it you get MUCH better temps with the IHS off then on...
