    Prescott 3.0E won't boot

I just got my Prescott 3.0 (socket 478) and plugged it in but it just won't boot, it's on for a couple of seconds then it just powers-off.

I've got a Gigabyte GA-8IPE1000G i865PE motherboard and it says it supports Prescott. So it shouldn't be an issue. I've tried inserting my ram stick in other slots, but that did not help either.

Dual-PSU, one COLORSit 400w and a generic 230w for all fans etc,. I have cleared CMOS also, but that did not help.

    Here's the specs:

    Gigabyte GA-8IPE1000G i865PE
    Kingston KHX3200UL/512 HyperX 512Mb DDR-DIMM PC3200 400MHz CL2 184pin
    Seagate Barracuda ST380013AS 7200.7 80Gb
    LG CDR/RW
    DVD
    Gainward Geforce3 Ti 200 128mb
COLORSit 400w PSU + 230w generic PSU for fans etc,.

    Any advice/help??

Yes. I have also checked the pins and everything, nothing seems to be wrong there. The whole thing came boxed with fan/heatsink in a package.

Could it be the PSU? It's as if it doesn't get enough power or something. The first boot it detected the CPU, memory and everything just fine but when it was trying to detect the HDD's etc,. it just powered-off. It runs for a couple of seconds then it just powers-off.

Here is the CPU supported list of Gigabyte GA-8IPE1000G i865PE: http://tw.giga-byte.com/Motherboard/...8IPE1000-G.htm

P4-Prescott 3.0E is not mentioned anywhere only P4-Prescott 3.0G - so apparently there is no support for 3.0E Prescott CPU's. Or??

IF this is the case what board works well with Prescott 3.0E???

My 3.0E is also with HT, Hyper-threading :/ -- Any good boards which support this?

They just put a G after all of the names to connotate Ghz.

Try putting your old CPU in it and update the BIOS. Maybe you have an older version and you need the newest version to support the Prescotts.

Ohh I see, DocGolem, thanks for the information. I didn't know it meant that. I've put my old CPU back in and everything is fine.

Regarding Bios, I downloaded their latest bios via their @BIOS tool just a couple of days ago

Maybe it's the PSU. Let's hope it is...I was just thinking of ordering a new MB...

    [edit]
clarification: THE OLD CPU WORKS BUT NOT THE NEW

    Also,

The @BIOS tool says that if I have a processor with hyperthreading I should get @BIOS B3 1008.1, but it's no where to be found. I've searched google, looked at their site - everywhere. All I can find is their FaceWizard which is version B3 1008.1 !!

If I could find @BIOS B3 1008.1 it might solve my problem.

Thanks for the advice. I've tried your suggestion yesterday actually, with two different fans/heatsinks, same thing; nothing much happens...it stays on for a couple of seconds then it powers-off.

    This is so annoying.

May it please those who responded,

The CPU is now fully working. I stayed up all night without sleep, exercising my brain and NOT trying to think about my problem. It worked! After drinking a cup of coffee I got restless and decided to mount the CPU back in and think of new ways of overcoming my problem. This I did. So I thought 'Gosh darn it, I'll unplug my USB keyboard and mouse and see if it makes any differance'. And it did. It booted up just fine! So I turned it off again, connected my USB-front and plugged in my mouse and keyboard there and now they work too. I just can't use the USB ports in the back because then it just dies.

I'm atleast happy it works now. Big differance from Williamette, I say
