    Exclamation Quick Mobile XP-2500 Question

I was under the impression that ALL Mobile Bartons are Multiplyer UNLOCKED,if paired with MoBo with correct Bios options. e.g DFI NF2 ULTRA B.
My mate just said that new ones need to be modded and they wont run @ 333 never mid 400+!!
I can't see this at all and can find no info to back him up but want to be sure B4 I shell out on one. My 2500 Barton is UNLOCKED so don't wanna try a Mobile if it MAYBE Locked - (a LOCKED Mobile XP makes NO sense to me tho!!)
Please can any-one back me/him up on this!!
If this is true what week no. do I need 2 be able to play??

pretty sure mobiles are still unlocked... don't see why AMD would bother changing anything else on a K7 when they are about to give them the axe

That would be news to me. That(locking the multi) defeats the purpose as the mobiles lower the multi and vC to save battery life when not needed. Ask him where/who the source of this "info" is.

a good mobile is better than a good unlocked regular barton... lower thermal output, lower required voltage.... meaning better OCer... if the new mobiles are bad OCers, then you may be better off staying with the unlocked regular barton

Cheers 4 all ya responces - I couldn't see that they suddenly decided to lock them either but just wanted to be sure.
Reason I'm thinking on a mobile is ATM I'm stuck @ 200 FSB - my mate wants a new CPU but isnt bothered bout OC so was gonna swap my Barton for his new Mobile and make use of the volt. and low heat + pionts. So either way I wont loose out any - will check shop and see if they will tell me the steppings of em first tho.

yes, the 2800 is a dtr with full vcore afaik, or 1.60v instead of 1.65v, but by far not the same as the 2600m wich only runs with 1.35v or 1.45v not sure wich of the two, its been a long time

I have a mobile 2500 and it is a great cpu. I use one of those zalman 7000 heatsinks to air cool it and it runs at 2500 mhz (12.5x200) 24/7 for the last 6 months. I'm making the switch to AMD 64 and am selling it, but if your still using bartons you can't go wrong with the proc.
AMD 2500-Mobile (12.5x200) DFI Lanparty Ultra B Rev. A, Geoforce3 ti200, 1 GB Geil UltraX pc4400. Cooling = Zalman CNPS7000A-Cu on cpu, default cooling for vid card and elsewhere. Fortron Blue Storm PSU.
