    DFI NF4 unable to overclock

I've had my DFI nf4 set up since Monday and it seems a rock solid board @ 200 HTT. All the components in my system apart from graphics card have been tested with a NEO2 so i know they all overclock well, 2500 on processor default voltage and 260 RAM.

When i tried overclocking the DFI it ran into problems strait away, even trying 225 HTT caused problems so i assumed my RAM couldnt cut it on this board. Next i tried 225 HTT with RAM on 166 divider and still i couldnt even get into windows. This was with an LDT of 3. I then tried lowering cpu multi aswell and still no go.

As far as i can see RAM settings wont make a difference as @225 with 166 divider thats 191 and its fine @ 200. Processor is also running under standard so I tried 1.6v chipset voltage, still no go.

This is tested with 201 and 209 bios so im really out of ideas, what could cause this board to overclock so badly when everyone elses is doing so well? All power connectors are plugged in btw and temperatures are all good. CPU = 28, chipset 38 pwm 37.
Thanks for any help, Greatly appreciated!

RAM compatibility, assuming you are using the Geils in your sig.
    which timings/vdimm?

    /// EDIT ///
take a loot over here bud, unfortunately according to DFI (at least) you RAM isn't compatible with the MoBo you have!

Attached is A64 tweak screenie, if my RAM was incompatible surely it would run fine on the divider though as its solid at 200bus?
    Was fine on NEO2

Edit - I do have 2 sticks of Corasir 3200 i could test with but i left them at work, does it not seem strange there ok at 200htt 1:1 but not 226 on 166 divider?
    Cheers for the link

I have 2x512 Corsair XMS3200XLPro and 2x512 PC4000 Crucial Ballistix.......both of which came out in the past 8 months and they aren't even on the list............Kingmax's junk made it to the list, but not these?

    TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE on DFI's part.

here comes the Tech. support's part, if they are as 'pro' as they 'advertise' then the list should expand with the upcoming BIOS updates.

My corsair pc3200xl works fine on the DFI with the beta bios. Try that.

I'm having a few problems OCing my SLI-DR too. I can get it to 243MHz/11* stable but if I go any further than 245MHz/11* Windows won't boot. I thought if I lowered the multiplier to 10.5 or 10, I could get it higher but lowering the multiplier makes no difference at all. It's as if multipliers 10.5 and 10 don't even work!

Oh, my FDD doesn't work either.

Yeh, HTT multi is at 3, i really cant believe that incompatible RAM would work fine at 200 but not 191, makes no sense. Any more opinions?

    weird,
    here is my suggestion:
Errata 94 Enhancement disable if you are using winnie
    try 260 first,
    htt set as 4x
    Bank interleave disable
    32 byte Granularity disable
TWCL use 1 clock (set from BIOS)
Max Async latency set 7ns or 8ns

    here is my basic setting

well I have finally fixed this problem, The DFI board suddenly started letting me overclock as soon as i dropped cpu multi down too 8 or below. 9 and 10 are both unable to work. This definately isnt related to processor frequency though as 9x225 is still default and the processor is fine up to 2500.
Thanks to all who posted and especially opb who also helped in PM's. I guess most big overclockers dont even bother trying these multi's and dont run into that problem.
GL Jimi and kraggy, hope this can help you fix your problems

With my 3000+ winny I also have a hard time with the 9x multi but can pull off some good stuff with the 8x including same higher speeds that it would not do at 9x and lower HTT! I dunno why but it just doesn't work for crap unless i jack up the vcore @ 9x. 8x on the other hand is running 312htt 1:1 @ 2.5 atm.

lol, you would think so wouldnt you although hes a bit young to smoke :P

I find it odd especially when the default multi is one that is no good for clocking. Something in BIOS or A64 problem? edit, o mem controller

Well I've finally sorted my OCing problems out (To an extent).

I've managed to get 2.7GHz out of my CPU. FSB is at 270, multiplier is at 10, the memory divider is set at 9/10 and the HTT is set at 4x.

It doesn't pass Prime 95 but I don't get any errors in Memtest and I get 32seconds in Super PI.

I'm gonna get some G Skill LA in the next couple of weeks. I'm pretty sure this OCZ is holding me back.

Man that was it Jimi! I have my rig running at 280htt x 10 on the 9/10 mem divider with LTDR of x4. I wonder if there is a bug with the 1:1 mem divder? All of my other attempts were at LTDR x3 at 1:1.

My mem is at 2.66v and CPU at 1.7v. I should try and back off of the v-core.

Both my CPu & mem scores seem low for 280htt....

    Nice

I'd maybe back off the volts to the CPU and stick 3V to your RAM. You should be able to get 300/10* with that FX55, easily.
