Winchester and Sub-Zero - Will it work?

    Hi

I'm planning to buy a system with a DFI NF4 SLI-DR board and a Winchester CPU. I want to cool it with my mach 2.
At first, i thought that the Winchester Subzero issue was related to the MSI Neo2 board only, but after reading some threads at this forum i've realized that its a question of the CPU's stepping rather than which board the cpu is running on.

Therefore i'm unsure if i should go with Winchester or Newcatle.

Is it unrealistic to reach 3ghz with a mach2 cooled 3500+ Newcastle?

How big is the chance of getting a Winchester that will run under my mach 2 with no problems at all?

Is there any noticeable performance difference between Winchester and Newcastle?

    Thanks in advice

unfortunately, from what i've seen, its still hit and miss with those damn winnies...and the people here who have had 0501 and 0502 weeks said they didn't even overclock that well, so i highly doubt they fixed the sub-zero bug...some people say that the cold bug was only on the MSI board and that the DFI fixed it, but i have yet to hear any confirmation of that whatsoever. As far as hitting 3ghz with a 3500+ NC, i couldn't tell you as i haven't seen many results rom 3500+'s. I can tell you that a majority of people reach better clock speeds on NC under cold than they do under Winnie's (when the Winnie actually works under sub-zero, believe it or not there are a few that do...). So, i'd say go for the NC - but as always with overclocking, its a gamble. Hopefully someone else will shed some light on the winnie subzero issue though, i'm interested in finding out about that too...have a good one.

avoid the hassle, get the NC. or a clawhammer if you can.

How are the NC compared to the chips that have 1mB cache
    thanks

the cache gives up to 200mhz of 'performance' depending on application. they dont overclock as well as NC's because they have larger Die's and use a little more power, but i really love how mine runs.

Ok. I'll get a newcastle or clawhammer then.

I've heard that the clawhammer doesn't clock as well as newcastle. I've also heard that the newcastle got a better mem controller than newcastle.
    Can anyone confirm this?

And how much extra performance does 1mb cache give compared to 512kb?

    You answered all my questions

I cant find any Socked 939 Clawhammers. Was the clawhammer only released for 754?

Is the FX55, in your opinion, worth the very high price?

Aphex_Tom_9: Where did you get that PC P&C 600W psu?

mostly all NC will do sub-zero...if you come across one that doesn't, it would be an extremely rare occasion..and if thats the case, look up when walking outside to make sure no birds are gonna sh*t on your cause thats some bad luck.. :P anyways...there are socket 939 clawhammers, namely the 4000+ and the FX-55. The rest are NC and Winchester.
