    Dfi Nf4 Sli-dr + X850xt-pe

I just got my SLI-DR up and running, but I've run into a snag.

My X850XT-PE hits the chipset fan whenever its installed in the PCI-E slot closest to the CPU socket. It clears just fine with it installed in the second PCI-E slot though.

Will I see any performance drop by using the 2nd slot versus the 1st? In single mode, both should be running 16X right?

Also, with the stock cooler sitting in BIOS, my temps are around 47C...is this safe to install the OS? Once I get the OS on it, I'm gonna throw the Baker cooler on it, so it will only be used for a few hours.

    Thanks

I guess you can install Windows, as for the X850, it's really strange that some people get it to fit while others don't.

In single mode the second PEG runs in x2 not x 16, your card should not be hitting the chipset. A similar problem was identified earlier and was possibly due to your motherboard warping a little bit. Make sure it has all proper support (plastic leg or washers) properly installed in all available support holes / retainer for your removable Mobo tray, or mobo case.

Let us know the outcome, I know of 3 people using the same card with no problems.

BTW: which brand is your X850 XT PE ?

I wonder if it is a PCB lenght issue between different manufacturers?? If issue there is, and mobo not warping.

Here is a pic off none issue, DFI rep also has no issue with X850 XT, and one more I can't think of right now....

I've got a DFI NF4 Ultra-D and a Sapphire X850XT PE and no problems whatsoever with spacing. Just plugged the gfx card on the first PCI-Express slot (the first of the two 16x lanes that is) and no problems.

Here is what I have done.
First off, the sink uses a Tim pad, it raises the hieght of the H/S. I took it off and got rid of the Tim and used some AS5. Now to lower it even more I took off the Fan Shroud thingy.

Nuc you wont lose any performance in the second slot as it is a x16 slot as well, or you can find a way to shorten the NB cooler so it will fit as for temp im sure the readings are wack just like every other board try a external probe if it still reads that just set a house fan blowing on it while you install your OS and you should be fine.

    Thanks for the replies guys.

My card is a sapphire, and neither the board nor the card are warped. I am caseless, so I'm sure its on a prefectly flat surface.

I need to take pics, because there is a little piece of PCB that "hangs" down just enough to catch the fan. It will spin, but it clicks horribly. If I pick up on that end of the card a very very small amount, it stops. I think if i remove the shroud, it will give me the clearance.

Also, according to DFI, the card shoud work in either slot. Both slots are supposed to be 16X from what I'm told. In the manual, it never mentions single card operation...so I e-mailed them. I haven't had time to test this yet, as I'm just setting up the OS now.

Okay, I just installed the board in a case, and the card fit. I did some serious looking, and my board does looked warped. Around the chipset area, it bends slightly downward, which causes the chipset fan to be a little raised in that spot.

Do I RMA the board, or what? I cannot run the board in a case, because the cooler won't fit. This is a dilemna

anyway did you try takeing the fan grill off? you could RMA but i really dont think you want to have to wait longer also might consider a icberg 4 to put on it if it is a little shorter : /

problem fixed. I cut the mobo tray from an old Dragon case I had, and the board is straight as a board now.

Now, with the stock cooler, I'm gettting temps of 47-50C in BIOS. I'm a bit worried to load an OS right now, because it looks like the temps will skyrocket.

What do you guys on air have your CPU fan set to? I have mine to the <25 setting...should I adjust it higher? The stock fan is only spinning about 3000 rpm, and I can't get it to speed up.

Thanks and sorry for the questions.

I thought the stock fans where a lot faster than that ?

Seen a few people reckon they don't do a bad job of cooling either.

Exactly. I know its a setting that I missing here. The HSF has one of those slim line fans on it, but it looks to be real good. AMD sent it to a friend when they RMA'd his CPU. It says Tt on it, with an AMD logo on the fan :o

I wish I had one of the retail coolers with the heat-pipe...but this will do I hope.
